4.0 out of 5 stars Pickling is a Science, September 26, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Magic School Bus In A Pickle: A Book About Microbes (Paperback)
We have a dozen Magic School Bus titles on our shelves. The kids love the characters, the challenging concepts presented and tangible explanations offered to them in the stories. The books make great companions to the DVDs.

I purchased In a Pickle because I make homemade pickles with my children (a boy, age 4 and a girl, age 2) at least once a week and thought the book would give us all insight into the pickling process (I know homemade pickles sounds very 'Martha Stewart' but it's simple: sliced cucumber, salt, a handful of sugar, some vinegar and water).

The story in this book is somewhat contrived (hence 4 stars) but it gave my son enough information to explain how the pickling process happens (he does so whenever our pickling ritual gets underway) and my daughter likes to follow the antics of the characters (all of whom she can identify and name) while becoming familiar with the vocabulary of the process. This book, like the others in the series, show how science impacts daily life.

This book wouldn't be the first Magic School Bus book I'd present to my kids if you're new to the series. Start with a book that closely matches his or her interests (for us it was MSB: Lost in Space).

5.0 out of 5 stars Audrey's Review "Best Book Ever", March 18, 2011
This review is from: The Magic School Bus In A Pickle: A Book About Microbes (Paperback)
I read The Magic School Bus in a Pickle by Scholastic for my book review. It's about some students named Phoebe, Keeshay, Wanda, Tim, Carlos, Arnold, and their teacher Ms. Frizzle shrinking and ending up in a pickle jar after summer vacation.

I loved this book because it's funny and exciting science and the bus can turn into a blimp.
