We bought two, one for each of my wife's nephews. It sprouted within 3 days of opening/watering. My wife's sister-in-law asked why we didn't get one for her, too! We will be buying many more of these great gift items. Both of the messages were the same, but were easy to read and great for the kids to practice their reading skills (ages 5 and 7).

We were give 3 of these as a gift for our three children. Two of the plants grew and revealed the message as promised. We purchased a new one after one failed to grow. So that the child whose plant did not grow would have another chance. The new plant failed to grow as well. Same location and mom was taking care of all plants the same way.
After the second one failed to grow I decided to dig a little. I discovered that both seeds stamped with the word love did not grow. Looked like the stamp was burned a little to far into the seed. But the seeds marked $ and Peace did grow as stated on the can. Revealing the secret message. They are currently growing all over the kitchen cabinets. Still no flowers as stated on the can. Time will tell.

I had a little trouble reading my message, but I'm fairly certain it said, "Peace be yours" and it had a peace sign on the other side. It blossomed up in about a week, and it still growing strong! It's sitting on top of my cubicle at work, getting a good amount of artificial light, but plenty of love! It looks great, growing like crazy! Everyone in my office is highly amused by it, and amazed it's growing so rapidly.

I first heard about this novelty on the web store J-List, which specialises in things from Japan. I saw this cute little oddity, and I knew I had to have one, but wasn't ready to spend money on shipping and conversions. I just had to wait until it came to the States.

Lo and behold, it did! I found it in a retail store, promptly bought it, and I'm extremely happy with the results. This is a good way to teach kids how to grow and care for their own botanical wonder, as well as having an adorable payoff, a crystal clear message right on the bean! (and how do they do it!?) Caring for the bean is easy (just water it when the soil feels dry and keep it in sunlight), so anyone can do it. I'd say it's definitely worth it as a gift, or even something to give yourself if you have a little extra cash and are looking for a fun novelty.

I bought the secret fortunes on February 16,2006. It has been just over a month and nothing has happened. We have watered it talked to it and it gets plenty of sunshine. What do we do now? Beverly connolly pasadena,tx

I got two of these in my stocking for christmas two years ago. put them in a drawer and just found them 3 weeks ago. I followed the directions, and one of them sprouted after 4 days, but i think it had been in the can for too long becausethe message looked rotted off almost, the other sprouted after about 7 days and it too had a garbled message. I planted them outside and they are thriving. So my advice is to use them when you get them, they actually do work!! I have no idea what kind of plant they are! They would be fun for a child to grow, or an adult like me who finds the whimsy in everything!

i was really happy i finally got a sprout to grow, and since im a nature child and im really into plants and about saving the animals and having a clean enviroment, i though that this would be a good idea. soi was reading the can and i was opening it, and it says 'instructions on the inside' so i look and it had no instructions /: im really bummed, and i dont know what to do, or how much to water it or how much sun to give to it, orrrr if i should talk to it. so i was wondering, can anyone help me here?

I work with the elderly and a few months ago I noticed that some of the residents had the secret fortune plants in their apartments. As they watered them and they began to grow, they loves them!!! So I decided to buy some for my kids. I got 3 of them, no problems at all growing them. I kept them in my window above the kitchen sink. Now they have grown into plants and are getting really tall. One of them is almost a foot tall already, the others aren't far behind that. Now, can someone tell me what kind of plant this is so I can repot it or do whatever needs to be done to keep it healthy. This toy is amazing! My kids- ages 5 & 7- have been growing this bean for about a month now, & it's still growing strong! Message showed up after about a week & a half, perfectly clear. Only thing is, I don't know what to do w/ it now! LOL, not sure exactly what it is. Anyway, this is a great, fool-proof, & very educational toy- my kids are wanting to grow everything now!

This was great for my 4 yr old son! He loved it! It was everything they said and more. My son Chris watered it from day 1 & it is still growing 6 weeks later. He loves it. He has the sunflower, the secert messege & the money 1 so we plan on planting them outside the new swingset he just received from his great-grandpa!
