Book Description

October 1, 2007
"Magic Stones" documents, in stunning and evocative photographs, our ancestors' obsession with stone. Throughout Europe stone has been used to create dwellings for the living and the dead, as a canvas for our earliest art, to celebrate the heavens and in ways that are still, even today, beyond our understanding. From the sun-drenched temples of Malta and the great tombs and alignments of Brittany to the labyrinths of icy Finland, this fascinating book explores these stones in their landscape, as part of nature and as a powerful reminder that, thousands of years on, they still hold a certain magic and mystery. This is the most wide-ranging photographic record of ancient European stone structures published to date. It is an inspirational celebration of the beliefs and achievements of our ancient ancestors. It features an authoritative introduction by leading archaeologist Julian Richards.

This book shows ALL the megaliths, dolmen, monolith and prehistoric monuments in Europe. The pictures are stunning, and also the text, which completes the unique experience of seeing how deep aesthetical feelings our ancestors had.

The picture's quality is superb, all of them in colour, and if you are searching a compilation of the most important ancient megaliths in Europe... you've got it in this book.

Inspiring, artistic, deep and susprising book.

Good text and great photos. More than a 'Coffee Table Book" for anyone interested in ancient archaeology.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love the pictures!, September 19, 2010
This review is from: Magic Stones: The Secret World of Ancient Megaliths (Hardcover)
This book is the real megalithic structure! Haha.

Packed with over 200 pictures, you really get the sense that something is going on in Europe, as it almost seems impossible that stone aged people could build such amazing structures! Kudo's to the authors for spending so much money to fly to all of these places and take these magnificent pictures!
