annoying singer!,

This review is from: Magic Train Ride PB w CD (Barefoot Singalongs) (Paperback)
the book itself isn't too bad, the illustrations are nice and there's a lot to talk about on each page. but the choice of singer was terrible. she has this peculiar trembling voice not at all suited to this, and melody isnt that great either. plus its not very easy for a young child to sing. back to the drawing .. er singing board, barefoot books.

Who is the singer?,

I really enjoy this book. I am a general music teacher and I use it with all my lower grades, doing a variety of activities. The singing is not very good. Sometimes I even feel the need to mention this to the listeners before I play the CD. When I have not done so, the students just spent time laughing instead of listening. Any adults that are in the room when it is played comment on how difficult it is to listen to this vocalist. The general consensus is, "I love the book, but I can't stand to listen to that singer." I just use the accompaniment and do the singing myself.

I used this book and CD with my 3 - 5 yr. old pre-school music classes and they loved it! The tune is very catchy and the kids love to pretend to blow the train whistle and immitate the train wheels! Highly recommend this one!

Magic Train Ride a big hit at our house!,

My 2 1/2 year old loves this book/CD! He can almost sing the chorus by himself! He begs me to play the CD and then follows along in the book. I believe it's the author that is singing and yes, it's not the most wonderful voice, but I think it's meant to be whimsical. Doesn't really bother me, but I'm good at tuning things out. As long as the boy loves it, I'm happy! Love the illustrations too. Lots of stuff for my son to point out!

Bought this book for my twin 2 year old daughter's as a Christmas gift, and they love it! The bright, funny photos and catchy tune hooked them right away. They ask for it over and over! Although the tune is a little hard to follow at first, once you sing it several times, it is quite enjoyable. I'll be looking at more sing-a-longs from Barefoot in the future!

Barefoot Books does a wonderful job---engaging artwork, catchy rhymes, and something to be learned and explored on each page! This is not my favorite in the sing/read books they offer, but it's okay. Both my son and I MUCH prefer Barnyard Jamboree, Animal Boogie, and Walking Through the Jungle. I'd advise skipping this book in favor of the previously-mentioned options, also published by Barefoot Books.
