Captures the Magic of The Books and Then Some!!,
By Juliette Lee (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Magic Tree House: The Musical (Audio CD)
Based on the wonderful series by Mary Pope-Osborne, this CD captures the magic of the books and then some! The songs are sophisticated enough for adults to enjoy (believe me, you'll be listening to them again and again and again - my son has then entire CD memorized!) and the music is captivating. Definitely not your typical "kid's show". I went to mthmusical.com to learn more about this show because I heard that it was going on tour and my son is so excited to see it ... it doesn't have cities and dates yet, but I definitely plan on checking back because this is not a show I want to miss. My son loves "the guard song" and I love a really sweet duet between Jack and Annie called, "What Would I Do Without You". It's worth the price of the CD alone! Happy Listening!

My Granddaughter was entranced!,

This review is from: Magic Tree House: The Musical (Audio CD)
I purchased The Magic Treehouse Musical for my seven year old granddaughter who enjoys listening to audiobooks and music while we travel. She was thrilled with the product and eager to share this time with her grandmother. My only complaint is that I was having to turn the volumn up and down. At times the voices were so faint they were inaudible-to be followed by a song which blasted the eardrums. This proved to be a good way to introduce my granddaughter to musicals.

My 7 and 4 year old love this CD. We've had it about 3 weeks and it's all they listen to. They have the songs memorized. My 7 year old and I are going to see the Musical this weekend. Should be great since we already enjoy the music. Hope they turn more of the books in to musicals. We'd would buy them for sure.

Magic Tree House Musical,

This is a great CD. My children (8 and 6) love the Magic Treehouse books, and this is a great alternative to movies in the car on trips. Very well done, and well worth the purchase!

I took my daughter to see the show live about a month ago and she's STILL singing some of the songs. She loves the MTH books and couldn't get enough of the play. That said, as an adult viewer it's just not the best stage show I've ever seen and some of the songs are a little hard to listen to. I applaud the Osbornes for providing their public with a way to be part of Jack and Annie's world and can truly say that my daughter loved the show, but I hope if they do this again that Mary Pope Osborne writes more of the script and that they work with a different composer.

I bought this for my son. After I listened to it I was very impressed. I thought it was going to be another children's CD. I will buy one for myself.

My boys, ages 6 and 7 share a bedroom. At night they like to listen to Audio books. Recently they started listening to the AudioBooks given out by Wendy's as part of their kids meals. Several of the books were Magic Tree House stories. They love the stories, but it was the song at the end of each that really intrigued them. I finally ordered them the entire musical and they LOVE it. They have even "choreographed" several of the numbers! Nothing like walking in on two little boys, supposedly drifting off to sleep, in a full out do-si-do to the musical! Since they loved this one so much I recently added, The Lion King, Shrek, Annie, and Mary Poppins musicals as well.

We had hoped to see the Magic Tree House the Musical when it was touring, but somehow missed it. Instead I got this CD, which my 5 year old daughter still loves to listen to from beginning to end, after a few months. It's the first CD where she sings along to the songs (real songs instead of toddler type songs).
The story is good as well, essentially following Jack and Annie into Camelot to save the kingdom. This is certainly a light musical, and don't come away expecting to be moved or have your life changed. But if you are looking for a story your kids will enjoy, and getting a chance to introduce them to a musical that's not Disney based, this is the way to go. It's worth mentioning that while there is some dialog around the songs, this is a soundtrack of the musical. It's not a retelling of a book, and isn't really an audio book in the traditional sense. You need to imagine some of the holes where dialog may be happening between songs. I really appreciated that the story focused on the brother and sister relationship, their adventure, and helping people. There was no real talk of relationships or deeper discussions that seem to pervade things like High School Musical or really any kids' movies recently. Not that I have a problem with it, but in some cases our daughter just doesn't get it, and really doesn't need to be exposed to it too much, so it's nice to find something with a decent story that doesn't focus on dating or even an overly scary antagonist.

Entertains my kids for hours,
This review is from: Magic Tree House: The Musical (Audio CD)
I came across this when my kids got a Wendy's kids meal with the prize being Magic Tree House stories read by Mary Pope Osborne. At the end of each story was a song from the musical. The story is cheesy, by adult standards, but it keeps my kids busy for hours on end. They had the whole thing memorized within a week and love to act out the story. For kids who love to sing and play pretend all the time, this is a great choice for them. I give it five stars because its a story that goes on playing even after the CD has ended. Let your imagination come out and play!
