Under the guise of a calming garden, a crisis handbook exists. In the introduction to Magic When You Need It: 150 Spells You Can't Live Without, Judith Illes points out that the perfect time for performing spells is when the outcomes have become our most urgent needs. The same desperation that fuels our frustration can be channeled into spell work for intensified results. According to Illes, "No spell is as effective as an emergency spell; no magic is as likely to work." Magic When You Need It is a collection of 150 spells, targeting the key areas we tend to stress over as a society.

Because Illes assumes the reader has picked up the book in a harried rush, Magic When You Need It is short on introduction and philosophy. It dives almost immediately into the collection of spells, beginning with a most common concern: cash. The first money spell is simple, with little more requirements than paper, a candle and a few oils.

Other sections include spells for love, home, and trouble. These spells are very specific, targeting needs like fitting into a wedding dress or avoiding parking tickets. These are not general health and well-being types of energy focus. Pick any distinct need and there is likely to be a corresponding spell within Magic When You Need It. For most scenarios, two spells are provided, allowing the reader to use complementary magick for extra impact.

Each themed segment opens with a page of general principles. Colors, stones, numbers, and spirits that oversee each plane of need are listed as a starting point. The motions for the spells are very simple, most without mantra. The practitioner personalizes each spell with relevant incantations. Illes lets the reader know when a particular spirit or deity would be a helpful entity to call on.

As Magic When You Need It does not focus on any particular religion and draws on many resources, it can be used by anyone open to the gifts of metaphysics. An ample selection of oils and herbs is a necessity, however. Illes provides a Shopper's Guide with a listing of websites where ingredients can be obtained, as well as a Latin Botanical Classification guide for ensuring the correct plants are purchased. She has created a thorough emergency handbook for the dedicated practitioner.

This is a handy little spellbook, absent the sticky sweetness of other writers of witchcraft. But, as other reviewers have said, this is a repeat of other Illes' work. It is virtually the exact same book as Emergency Magic. If you have that, there is no need to buy Magic When You Need it. I wish I hadn't.

Yes, this is a useful book but if you own some of her previous work you'll find many of the spells are repeated. I always love her work but don't get this is you have any of her other work.

This one book provides 150 spells that are easy to understand and use with effective results. All of the ingredients needed to cast each spell can be found in your local health food store or supermarket.

What I found this spell book offered that it completion lacked was that it provided spells that the common individual could use. With its convenient size you can keep it close at hand and use whenever the needed.

Judika Illes has proven that she is a master in the occult. Magic When You Need It: 150 Spells You Can't Live Without is geared towards the novice and the experienced. I would highly recommend her work to anyone who is looking to incorporate magic into their world.

"Magic When You Need It" is a great book. It contains a variety of spells with instructions that are clearly written out and easy to understand. I would definitely recommend it!

Eloquent, concise, and informative, not only regarding the spells themselves, but also in regards to stuff like the philosphy behind magic, various magical tools, etc. Written in everyday language with a nice touch of humor. Looking forward to using the "Keep Your Home: Avoid Eviction" and "Turn Around a Bad Investment" spells in particular. Highly recommended!

Magic When You Need It by Judika Illes is a quick reference book for emergency spells involving money and your career, love, sex marriage, and children, home, and various other troubles. When you need a little help or a lot of help, these spells will help you!

Magic When You Need It is a spell book for beginners or for people who have been practicing magic for years. The author collects ancient spells and new spells, so there is a good mixture included in the book to help you with just about every situation you'd need to use a spell for. Judika Illes writes in a very easy to read and understand way, so even if you don't use any of the spells, it is still a fun read.

Most of the spells require certain ingredients to have it be effective. If you don't happen to live near a magical shop that carries those ingredients, the author lists places online that you can shop at to ensure that you have access to the ingredients.

If you are interested in magic at all, this is a great book to have to quickly access the spell you need in a hurry. I highly recommend it.

Nice little book, somewhat basic and most spells can be found elsewhere but still a nice little spellbook to keep handy

This was a Ok book. since I am a eclectic witch this book had to many spells that were just on the wrong side of the line for me. The first wrong thing was a spell for bringing back the dead. This is a big "no no"in my book. This book just has to many spells that would take away a persons free will and as we all know, harm none, do what thy will.

I recieved this item in record time, and I love the quality of it!! Thank you
