3.0 out of 5 stars Little Romance, Annoying Protagonists
I definitely agree with some reviewers about the annoying protagonists. While I did find Amy likable at first, soon after her initial appearance with Warren, she suddenly turns into this bold, needy, and obsessive person! Her desperate actions to gain Warren's attentions really turned me off. Warren, on the other hand, is still hotheaded and stubborn--and now a HUGE...

Abbys (Moreno Valley, CA United States) - See all my reviews
First off, here is the series in sequence: 1. Love Only Once 2. Tender Rebel 3. Gentle Rogue 4. The Magic of You 5. Say You Love Me 6. The Present: The Malory Holiday Novel

Even in the first book of the series, Love Only Once, Amy was described as a dreamer, aggressive and strong willed. She speaks her mind and shows her heart. So if you like woman who are the seducer in the book then this one is for you. As for me, I normally prefer the man being the seducer while the woman are innocent and naive, however, in this circumstances, I wasn't offended by the way Amy reached out to Warren. Ms. J.L. wrote it well and it wasn't disgusting or degrading to woman. Warren had a dark past that made him hard and distant to love so it is understandable that Amy should be the one to reach out to his hard heart and try to make it soft again. The Malory family conflicts, bickering & arguements is once again an add on spice to the book.

I have notice that all books in this Malory series (except for the first one) contains lots of repetitive informations. There were times I had to skip parts wherein a Malory or two will start discussing the story or happenings of the previous books, sorta like a short summarization for those who have not read it. For readers like me who have read the series in sequence, It's kindda useless info. and i won't lose anything to skip it... At first, this style of writing didn't seem to bother me but when I got to the third book of the series, the summarization of the first two books was getting to me. Imagine my restlessness when i was reading the 4th and the 5th book! I skipped more parts then cuz I didn't need to read the summary of the 3-4 previous books which i already know about. Whew! I say it would have been better for Ms. J.L. to leave readers some thrill to pick up each book and read each story for themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars MAGICAL!, May 2, 1999

This hands down is the best JL book! I loved the fact that Amy did all the chasing. Her lines just had me rolling. The chemistry between her and Warren is the best i've seen. Every scene was so well written and sexy. This book would bring the dead back to life. We need more heroines like Amy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must read if you love the Mallory's, August 22, 2001
By A Customer
I did not agree with the people who rated this book as a bore. I have this book, in fact I have read the enitre series many times and have loved each every one.

Warren Anerson, a typical male character for a romance novel, was inhanced for the fact that he had James and Tony to match his wits against. I liked the caustic remarks and wit that was displayed from these 3 characters and found the book to be very entertaining.

I liked that Amy mallory wasn't your typical lie back and allow the man to seduce her heroine but a woman who knew her mind, heart and soul. She didn't wait for things to come to her in their own good time but went after them. she enrgetic, lively and in my humble opnion quite 3 dimensional charater. Not 1 dimensional.

I do happen to agree with another persons review that JL explained the other books too much. it does tend to grate on the nerves and she would be better off to not explain every situation time and again. This is why I rated the book 4 stars instead of five. But all in all a good read and great characters and I am like all the rest, impatiently waiting for the next Mallory/Anderson novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars The magic of love . . ., August 30, 2004
_The Magic Of You_, the fourth book in the much-loved Malory saga, is the story of Amy Malory and Warren Anderson. Though Amy is only a minor character in the first three books of the series, and at first I was disappointed that Ms. Lindsey hadn't picked a more prominent character to write about, I was pleasantly surprised with this book.

Amy Malory may look like her cousin Regina, she may even have the ability to manipulate a situation like her cousin, but she's also inherited a fair amount of her personality from the male members of the Malory clan. Bold and brazen like her uncles Tony and James, Amy has set her sights on Warren Anderson (you'll remember him as Georgina's brother in _Gentle Rogue_) and nothing will stand in her way. Fresh from the schoolroom, Amy is far from naive. Though innocent in action, her unabashed personality is just the match for the iron-willed and often ruthless Warren.

Warren Anderson has little use for women other than to soothe the yearnings of his body. Played false by a beautiful woman he thought he loved, Warren's heart is hidden behind so many walls he's sure no one will ever hurt him again. From the first minute Warren meets Amy he's shocked by her bold advances and even as his body responds to her in a way he can't control, he uses his strong resolve to resist her charms.

Though I'm a fan of all the Malory books, I'd have to say this one ties for the best book of the series with _Tender Rebel_. Amy's forthrightness is refreshing and certainly a welcome change from the simpering, sighing maidens who can usually be found as heroines in this genre. And, appropriately enough, this ground-breaking heroine gets a hero who isn't a cardboard copy of all the rest. Warren is far from being the perfectly romantic and dashing hero. He's rough around the edges and needs some serious adjustment to his attitude.

I'm really surprised with the tepid reviews this book has received, since I think it's among the best of Ms. Lindsey's work. If you're looking for a fiery romance between two strong, independent and bold characters, look no further than Amy and Warren. I know you'll love them as much as I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different from the rest..., June 22, 2005
By
Now, I started to read this series out of order (I first read A Loving Scoundrel- loved it), but at the time I didn't really know there were several books before it!

So, this book, The Magic of You, I just recently finished it and read it in one night. I love all of the Malory books, only being a bit disappointed with Derek's story, but this one seemed different from the rest. Amy was thought to be this sweet innocent child, but suddenly she has her eye on the grumpy American Warren and won't let him go. Some parts I thought were so outragous and/or ridiculous that I couldn't help by laugh or roll my eyes, but this was a nice change from the usually sappy and predictable stories in this series. Of course, you KNOW that they will end up together, and you KNOW that everyone will be unbelieveable gorgeous, but I enjoyed the humor in this book and I love the way Ms. Lindsey writes romance.

I recommend this book to all, especially if you are a fan of Lindsey. But, try to read the books in order, then you can just skim through the parts in each book that reviews a family members story- especially in The Present. ;)

I definitely agree with some reviewers about the annoying protagonists. While I did find Amy likable at first, soon after her initial appearance with Warren, she suddenly turns into this bold, needy, and obsessive person! Her desperate actions to gain Warren's attentions really turned me off. Warren, on the other hand, is still hotheaded and stubborn--and now a HUGE grouch as well! He rarely ever warms up in this story, which is very unappealing. There's too much bickering involved and hardly any romance. Of the sparse love scenes, they are comepletely uninspiring. I actually wished that Amy and Drew would have hooked up instead; I found their brief encounters more exciting! If you're curious as to why I'm giving this book a generous three-star rating, it's only because I enjoyed reading about Jeremy--who's so delightfully funny--and got to catch up with my favorite JL couple: James and Georgie. If you want to re-visit old friends from previous Malory books (i.e., LOVE ONLY ONCE, TENDER REBEL, GENTLE ROGUE), then get a copy of this book at a library. Otherwise, I wouldn't suggests purchasing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST in the Malory series, April 26, 2001
I am an absolute fan of JL, and my favorite in the Malory series, especially those that include the Anderson brothers! When you have both Anthony and James and you include the Anderson brothers you know sparks are going to fly. So when young Amy decides on the "worst" brother to be her future husband, not many people are going to agree, including the future groom himself. Warren is my kind of man, who doesn't let his feelings show and tries to push everyone away, but you have to love him on how protective he becomes with Amy! She is amazing because she is unexperieced in love and seduction but that is what wins him over. A MUST read, once you read 'The Magic of You' you will want to read the others. Keep them coming Ms. Lindsey, we love your Malory series!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE!, November 9, 1999

The Magic of You is my favourite Johanna Lindsey romance so far, I think I've read it over 10 times already but still, everytime i pick it up again, it makes me laugh over Amy's fiest and tingle over the enchanting romance. The plot is so refreshing and the way Warren tries to resist Amy is so cute! This book is a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK! IT'S A KEEPER!, June 20, 1999
By A Customer
I have been a loyal Johanna Lindsey fan for over 15 years. I'll admit that I have liked some of her books more than others, but I have never disliked any of her stories or her characters. I am always amazed when I think about the fact that she has been writing for over 20 years. I have read all of her books and I have never seen similarities in her plots or her stories. They are all unique.I am an avid reader and I like a lot of authors, but Johanna Lindsey stays my all time favorite because of her ability to keep her stories fresh. Regarding this story I thought it was wonderful to see the female do the chasing. Amy Malory acted true to form as far as I was concerned. She acted as the male Malory's had when they decided they wanted someone. She was bold and very charming as James and Tony were without being crass or trashy. I loved it! I thought it was wonderful that unlike other family members that had had to have shot gun weddings, Amy refused to settle for anything less than true love and full commitment. I respect other peoples opinions, but I really don't understand why some people were so upset by a women that went after what she wanted. It was great in the sense that I think that the author was trying to show that even though Warren was twice Amy's age she was mature enough to handle him. Johanna, please keep up the great work! I am one of your greatest fans!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love Everything Johanna Writes...., March 12, 2000

And, this is one of my all time favs. Amy is sweet, spirited, willful, loving and determined. She's everything a romance novel heroine should be. You can't beat this fast-paced and adventure some book for a book ole' fashion drink of love. Warren is a great male lead. He's strong, big and not really looking for a "love." He never really knew what hit him. Amy is everything he could ever want. I love and adore this book and constantly hope for more and more Malory Novels. Keep 'em coming.
