1.0 out of 5 stars One of the Worst in a Mediocre Series
Kids in the 5-7 range will probably love this series with its dependable repetition of formulas that my kids loved to say out with me when we got to the best part of the book: "The wind blew harder ... The treehouse started to spin ... faster and faster ... then everything was still. Absolutely still." The loyalty and friendship which bond brother Jack and sister Annie...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Book, April 11, 2001
By A Customer
I have been reading this book to my students and they love it. Today they begged me not to stop reading it. They find this series very interesting. Even some of my reluctant readers are excited to read these books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Midnight on the Moon Review by Matthew Broome,, February 20, 2007
A Kid's Review
Midnight on the Moon by Mary Pope Osbourne

This book was about a smart nine year old boy named Jack and his seven year old sister named Annie. I liked this book because it was very adventurious and fun to read. When I read this book I felt like I took an exciting trip into outerspace. Jack and Annie's goal on the moon was to find the last "M" thing from the four great series of books. To find out what happens to Jack and Annie on the moon, read this fantastic book. I give this book a 4 star rating because of its wonders and suspense. This is a book I would read again.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE FINAL PART OF THE STORYLINE!, March 1, 2005
Midnight on the Moon is the fourth and final part of the four party "Mystery of the Magic Spell" storyline. Jack and Annie have been able to locate three of the four items needed to release their friend, Morgan le Fay from the spell she is under. In a bit of a departure from the fantasy and adventurous type settings, this time the Magic Tree House transports Jack and Annie onto a moonbase in the future. Jack and Annie find themselves hiding out from a man flying about and now have to figure out a way to get back to the moonbase before their air supply runs out.

Quite different than their early adventures this one helps to teach kids about gravity. Sal Murdocha once again provides marvelous illustrations for the story as it reachs it's climax. Good but different storyline.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to chapter books, August 13, 2005
I have an almost 5 year old who is very active but can easily be encouraged to sit and read any of these books. We also have 1-4 and 9 and 11 and have asked for more for birthdays and christmas. The books have structure as they begin and end in a similar fashion and the body of the text is interesting because the two children must figure out a riddle. The books also have occasional illustrations to help little ones having difficulty imagining the time and place of the books theme. My review is for all we have read so far. My husband and I both love the stories as well. It is so exciting to see our son get so excited about reading and to teach him the components of a book such as the table of contents and chapter numbers, identifying the author, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully written plot, November 13, 2001

Johnathan Bogart (Boise, ID United States) - See all my reviews
"Midnight On The Moon" is one of the best books. First of all, Peanut is acting strange, and running back and forth on the letter "M". So Jack and Annie leave him in the tree house and go on the moon to find the M thing. When they find a moon buggy, they go exploring, and later find an American flag with a note by it. Jack and Annie make their own note, then are about to go back when they see a moon man. Jack tries to communicate with him by notes, and then the moon man draws a map of stars. When they go back to the tree house, they can't go home for some reason. You'll have to read the rest for yourself.

There's one thing I want to say. What makes this book neat is that they are transported to the future instead of being transported back in time. That can really make the book way more interesting. So if I were you, I wouldn't miss this one, which is my 3rd best.

This book is really exciting because it must be fun to be on the moon. I love the Magic Treehouse Books because they take me on great adventures. This book is my favorite because it is really cool. I hope I will be able to go to the moon someday.

1.0 out of 5 stars One of the Worst in a Mediocre Series, September 15, 2005

Kids in the 5-7 range will probably love this series with its dependable repetition of formulas that my kids loved to say out with me when we got to the best part of the book: "The wind blew harder ... The treehouse started to spin ... faster and faster ... then everything was still. Absolutely still." The loyalty and friendship which bond brother Jack and sister Annie are also a refreshing break from sibling squabbles.

On the other hand, it's discouraging to watch the heroes of these books visit far-off times and places and learn virtually nothing about the places they go to, because the author is so ignorant about science, history and the English language. If you want your kids to learn anything from their readings, you'll have to delve a little deeper into the mass of children's literature than this trivial series.

I admit this episode is one of the ones that annoyed me the most. While giving an erstwhile lesson on the moon's physical characteristics, the author has her characters stay in a "moon base". When they go outside, they experience low gravity, but when they're inside they apparently have Earth gravity. What's going on here? Is there a magic spell on the moon base? Come off it, these books are not educational, they're just mildly imaginative escapist adventures for kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars MY BOY LOVES READING IT, January 7, 2007
My 1st grader hates to put it down, he would rather read Magic Tree House books, than play video games. He even reads them to his class and explains the story for show and tell. In his kindergarten class the teacher would also let him read the Magic Tree House books out loud, not to give her a break, but to promote reading out loud. Great books!
