I have been using MagicJack Plus for about a month, and I am very impressed so far. I had a lot of questions about this device, and I will try to answer those questions for others who are interested in saving money on their phone service. Here are my answers based on my experience.

Does it work? It really works. After you register by plugging it into your computer USB port, you just plug in your router, power, and phone.

How is the sound quality? It is about half way between a cell phone and a regular land line. Sometimes I briefly hear some low volume static after talking, and some people say my voice sounds slightly synthesized. There is also a slight delay.

How many phones can it support? I activated the phone wiring in my house and plugged in 3 cordless phones, and they all worked. If you do this, be sure to disconnect the phone wire that comes in from the phone company. Cordless phones provide their own power, so they are not much of a drain on the MagicJack power. Other reviews have said that only 1 to 2 corded phones can be supported. The easiest and best way to hook up your phones is to use a DECT phone system. I love the Panasonic KX-TG6645B DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with Answering System, Black, 5 Handsets system.

Can it fax? I tested it using my computer fax modem, and it works!

Can I transfer my old phone number? After you set up MagicJack with a temporary phone number, you can request that your old number be transferred to your MagicJack service for a $20 fee. This will cancel your old phone service. Do NOT cancel your old phone service yourself before the number is transferred.

I used the original Magicjack for two years and the call quality could be sub-par at times. Often the PC needed to be rebooted so the quality was "acceptable." I was going to buy NetTalk Duo to replace my original MagicJack, but NetTalk doesn't port your phone number, so I waited for Magicjack Plus. The set-up of Magicjack Plus was relatively easy and took about 1/2 hour. After connecting the magicJack Plus, I immediately had a dialtone, but I was given a new phone number. I went online and chatted with a magicJack rep. who was extremely helpful and explained that I needed to log into my Magicjack account and click on a setting which I think was "use my current phone number" (or something like that). The Magicjack Plus works just like a landline and the call quality is mostly excellent, tho occasionally it sounds tinny, probably due to high traffic on the Web or high consumption of bandwidth. I was pleasantly surprised when the voicemail indicator on my phone system flashed when I have a new voicemail. I highly recommend trying it. You can always return it within 30 days for a refund.

Like so many folks the advertised "$19.95 a year" was a big temptation, but after so many years with the same home phone number, I did not want to lose it. Along comes MajicJack Plus and "now you can keep your phone number". Uh yeah, sorta'.

First of all MJ Plus is not $19.95 a year but rather $29.95 a year. Also there is a fee to port your old number, if you can figure out how to port it. Good luck because support is non-existent. I read another reviewer that stated they called customer support for help. Well I wish they would have listed the number they called because it is not found anywhere in the pamphlet, software or website. Which is the crux of this review. To say the support is a shoestring would be generous. I finally found a place to get some info, but it is a forum, and not even run by MajicJack. You are at your computer, on the internet, take a moment to check out what I am saying. It was a good long search to find out where I could access the account login page, where someone on the forum said "you can login and port your number by changing certain account settings". Mind you, this is not "MajicJack" but a forum set up on a third party website. So I entered my email and password to login and change the settings which takes me to..............an advertisement. No buttons, no info, nothing. Go back to the home page, hit the button "Use your existing phone number", gets you general info, no directions whatsoever about how to do it.

According to the forum MajicJack does not port your number, once again, you must go to a third party and port your number to them and then transfer it to MajicJack. I know you have likely read the other reviews about how easy this was.

I don't have a house phone at all due to the expense and we don't miss it at all! However, when my parents came to visit (who do not own cell phones), I did not want to leave them in the house with no telephone alone. So I purchased a Magic Jack Plus.

It was very easy to set up -- plugged it into my laptop running WinXP and it was very self explanatory from there. Within 10 - 15 minutes, I had my magic jack set up, I had my phone number, and I was ready to go.

The magic jack PLUS plugs directly into the internet router (cable is provided) and you must plug it into a power outlet for power (an adapter is provided in the package). You do, however, need a computer to set it up for the first time and get your phone number.

So far the magic jack plus has been working great. I've only had it for 3 days, however. If anything changes I will report back!
