Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Determined to rectify a disastrous mistake caused by one of his misdirected arrows, Eros, god of love, sets about trying to make the Marquess of Blytheland fall in love with intelligent, outspoken, but quite naive Cassandra Hathaway. A mythical cupid and a delightful younger sister (who deserves a story of her own) do their best to keep a wounded but resilient hero and a charmingly blunt heroine on the convoluted path to true love. This light Regency is peppered with witty dialog and humorous repartee. Harbaugh (The Reluctant Cavalier, Signet, 1996) lives in Auburn, Washington.

From Booklist

Graham, a consistent best-selling author who writes under either the name Graham (for historicals) or Pozzessere (for contemporaries), makes her hardcover debut. This new book is a contemporary holiday story with historical embellishments that will satisfy her old fans and appeal to new ones. John and Julie Radcliffe and their three children, a modern Miami family, are being torn apart by changing goals and old hurts. An isolated family vacation at a Virginia country inn at Christmas will either remake the family or shatter it forever. Enter the Wainscott family, the caretakers of the inn the Radcliffes choose. A peculiar family, the Wainscotts dress in Civil War^-era costumes and are rarely seen together. Each of the Wainscotts hints at a tragic loss and encourages the Radcliffes to rebuild their family. In puzzling out the secrets of the Wainscott family, the Radcliffes rediscover each other and find that family is worth fighting for. Highly recommended for all public libraries. Melanie Duncan

More About the Author

New York Times and USA Today best selling author, Heather Graham was born somewhere in Europe and kidnapped by gypsies when she was a small child. She went on to join the Romanian circus as a trapeze artist and lion tamer. When the circus came to South Florida, she stayed, discovering that she preferred to be a shark and gator trainer.

Not really.

Heather is the child of Scottish and Irish immigrants who met and married in Chicago, and moved to South Florida, where she has spent her life. (She has, at least, been to the Russian circus in Moscow, where she wished she was one of the incredibly talented and coordinated trapeze artists.) She majored in theater arts at the University of South Florida. After a stint of several years in dinner theater, back-up vocals, and bartending, she stayed home after the birth of her third child and began to write. Her first book was with Dell, and since then, she has written over one hundred and fifty novels and novellas including category, suspense, historical romance, vampire fiction, time travel, occult, horror, and Christmas family fare.

She is pleased to have been published in approximately twenty-five languages, and has had over seventy-five million books in print. She has been honored with awards from Walden Books, B. Dalton, Georgia Romance Writers, Affaire de Coeur, Romantic Times, the Lifetime Achievement Award from RWA and more. Heather has also become the proud recipient of the Silver Bullet from Thriller Writers. Heather has had books selected for the Doubleday Book Club and the Literary Guild, and has been quoted, interviewed, or featured in such publications as The Nation, Redbook, Mystery Book Club, People and USA Today and appeared on many newscasts including Today, Entertainment Tonight and local television.

Heather loves travel and anything that has to do with the water, and is a certified scuba diver. She also loves ballroom dancing. Each year she hosts the Vampire Ball and Dinner theater at the RT convention raising money for the Pediatric Aids Society and in 2006 she hosted the first Writers for New Orleans Workshop to benefit the stricken Gulf region. She is also the founder of "The Slush Pile Players", presenting something that's almost like entertainment for various conferences and benefits. Married since high school graduation and the mother of five, her greatest love in life remains her family, but she also believes her career has been an incredible gift, and she is grateful every day to be doing something that she loves so very much for a living.

4.0 out of 5 stars The story lives up to its title -, March 7, 2005
This review is from: A Magical Christmas (Paperback)
The first chapter is centered around a civil war hanging scene, and I sort of rolled my eyes and thought this was going to be a heavy historical war saga that I wouldn't be able to get into. However, it quickly moved into the delightful contemporary story described above.

I found it very enchanting how the civil war family, who died way too young without resolving their quarrels with each other, "came alive" again to help the modern-day family heal, reconcile and rediscover their love & committment for each other.

A Magical Christmas tale which I enjoyed very much.

4.0 out of 5 stars wonderfully magical!, January 2, 2000
This review is from: A Magical Christmas (Paperback)
I found this book slow to start, jumping from civil war era to present day. I stuck with it though and realised the information was of importance to the latter part of the book. The pace picked up and made up for the slow start twofold.

The book is about a civil war family who suffers tragedy and a present day family who is having marital problems.

I have not read a book like this in a long time. It was very good, and left a lasting impression on me after I finished the last page. A real winner.

This was a wonderful story as all of Ms. Graham's stories are. I read it in just a few hours 'cause I couldn't put it down!! I did have to re-read a few parts as I had too many tears in my eyes to see the printed page. I think I've read all of her books and this one ranks at the top along with all her other books about the Civil War.
