Book Description

If you ever thought your cat was brilliant, you won't be surprised that spectacular cats solve mysteries for romantic 1920s detectives in the Cool Cats Mystery Series.

The festivities begin in Splendid Summer, when Grace Wentworth loses her guardian and all her money, hot flyboy and Pinkerton detective, Jack Brewster, gets the case. They meet on a romantic train journey from New York to California.

EXCERPT: A white cat sat against his pillows, grooming a paw.
"Do you sleep with her?"
"No, we're just good friends," he replied.

In Emeralds, Diamonds and Amethysts, Grace, Jack, and magical cool cats Tatania and Zeus, race bootleggers to find an extraordinary jewel collection. Emeralds, Diamonds, and Ametheysts is about a code known only to women who fight for the rights of all women.

EXCERPT: Grace looked at a ticket. It read: Good for one in a Pierce Arrow for the Suffragette March.
"I thought it was a march."
'Bless your heart, Grace. When one can ride in a nice Pierce Arrow, why walk? One can show one's support from a luxury car just as well. Those with a chauffeur also serve."

In Cher Ami, two people drop dead within minutes of each other. They appear unrelated. Grace, Jack, Tatania, and Zeus find the story of Cher Ami, a WWI carrier pigeon with the heart of a lion.

EXCERPT: It's not easy to get seven years of sleep in each year. Cats do their best. Since cats live seven years for each human one, naps are mandatory. Tatania, a fluffy white deaf Persian, and Zeus, a black and white with a little pink nose, were napping when the commotion began in Coronado Tent City. They sprawled across the bed's middle.
Grace slipped on a sleeveless dress with a scalloped hemline.
"Feels a little chilly," she said, rubbing her shoulders, "should I put on a sweater?"
"With the heat I generate, you won't need one. Just stick close to me," Jack said.

4.0 out of 5 stars Boxed Set August 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I had the chance to read all four of these books as single novels/novellas and enjoyed the mystery and atmosphere of the series. While they're not always the smoothest reads, the plot is enough to keep you interested, especially as you get more attached to the characters. These are fun, light, quick reads that will keep you guessing!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun read with some 20's glamour August 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This 4 story set was an easy read. The descriptions of flights in the early open planes were great! An independent young woman ahead of her time and standing up for herself against financial bad times made a pleasing main character. Some of the detective skills may have been a little more modern than of that time, but they added to the validity of the stories' conclusions. The cats were great and I would have liked a little more of their "magical" qualities.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great gift! April 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
How terrific to be able to purchase four of these gentle and intriguing books as a set. The set will make a great gift for friends, family or for yourself! The mysteries are interesting and the period the detectives are depicted in is so romantic! Anyone who appreciates cats will have fun with the role of the beautiful, smart and wise third member of the investigative team! This young author has given us all a treat with the combination of these very enjoyable works!

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing July 31, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was looking forward to reading the stories - especially as they got good reviews. Unfortunately the 1st story was so poorly written I won't read the rest. The story is very herky-jerky. Where was the editor? One minute the characters are in one place, and the next paragraph they are somewhere else. I kept double checking if I'd skipped a page (I didn't). Were paragraphs left out? If you want a well written story, skip these.

This was a cute series. Was funny and well, relaxing. Books set in another time always leave me with a smile. Enjoyed every one of them. Personally, I need a Tatiana!

3.0 out of 5 stars Middle is kinda mushy. November 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The general premise is really great. The stories seem to just end. There doesn't seem to be enough details for the reader to follow the authors' thoughts. It is kinda like the author had a really great idea, found a good start and a good end, but was unsure how to get from the beginning to the end cohesively. The middle of each story needs work to get from the great beginnings to the great endings.

I read the first two stories in the collection and found the same problems other reviewers mention. The first story was interesting primarily because the action (and thus the plot) were so incredibly disjointed and seemingly random that just figuring out what the check was happening was a mystery to be solved. The second story was a tiny bit better in continuity, and it had moments when I thought we might finally get some character development. Instead we got the cat's inner thoughts about walking through walls and solving mysteries before naptime. The anachronisms are sometimes quite startling. One minute inexperienced Grace is lusting after Jack, and the next she's prudishly critical of her uncle's mistress. I think what keeps me reading is curiosity about whether or not this author improves with experience. The stories do have brief flashes of interesting potential.

Couldn't believe how good this book set was. There were current events happening such as prohibition, woman's suffrage, memories of the war, Coronado's development, etc. Then where's the usual greed, death, crime, but also the good like love between the hero and heroine and their cats. Even with being shown the troubles of life, I came away feeling positive about what the stories portrayed. The humor was a good bonus throughout the reading. This is a keeper!
