About the Author
Mary Lou Décosterd is a consultant, educator and writer who began her career working with children, families and young adults. She worked in a variety of settings such as special art schools, treatment facilities and college student services. Mary Lou went on to teach undergraduate and graduate human services and psychology courses and to consult in the profit and nonprofit sectors in the areas of staff and organizational development. She is currently founder and owner of The Lead Life Institute, an organization specializing in leadership, team and organizational excellence. Recognizing the special challenges and issues facing our young children today, she wanted to develop an experience to support their development as well. She created the Magical Max book series as a way to help children become their best. She holds a B.A. in Psychology, Master's degrees in Educational Psychology, Organizational Development and Clinical Psychology, postmaster's certification in School and Community Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Human Development. Mark Cooper is an award-winning illustrator and art director in both print and filmmaking with over 20 years of experience in the United States and overseas. Mark is currently founder and owner of Quick-Draw Creative Group in Orlando, Florida.

Mary Lou Décosterd is founder and managing executive of the Lead Life Institute, a learning consultancy offering programs and services to help executives, teams and organizations become their best. Dr. Décosterd has 25 years of experience in organizational development, applied psychology and university teaching. She has authored the leadership books titled, "Right Brain Left Brain Leadership: Shifting Style for Maximum Impact" and "Right Brain Left Brain President: Barack Obama's Uncommon Leadership Ability and How We Can Each Develop It," along with the children's book titled "Magical Max Makes Friends."
Dr. Décosterd is adept at assessing individual and organizational needs and obtaining results. She works as an executive coach to leaders and leadership teams and as a facilitator, speaker, designer and trainer for both profit and non-profit organizations. Areas of expertise include leadership and interpersonal development, implementation and execution, cultural and team alignment, strategic change leadership, mediation, attitude and motivation, wellness and work/life integration. Her work focuses around four critical success drivers: business acumen, influencing, executing and self-satisfaction.
Prior to founding the Lead Life Institute, Dr. Décosterd was a partner at a Chicago-headquartered international consulting firm, a tenured university professor and held high-level leadership positions in the nonprofit sector. Mary Lou actually began her career working with children, families and special needs populations. She worked as a psychotherapist, clinical director and administrator in varied settings such as special act schools, residential treatment facilities, colleges and in community mental health. She taught graduate and undergraduate human services and psychology courses.

Captivating children's book - highly recommended,

My children and I thoroughly enjoyed Magical Max. The author has written one of those books which delight both child and adult. The story is engaging while teaching children a valuable life lesson, and the wonderful artwork will capture the attention of the nonverbal baby. I hope there will be more Magical Max books. My children and I look forward to Max's next adventure.

Magical Max is a delightful book that has kept my children entertained and engaged each time they read it. The art work in the book is eye catching and colorful. My children love the character Max. He is an adorable and amusing puppy who seems to make friends with unconventional companions with marvelous results! As my children read about Max and his adventures, they are learning some important life lessons about friendship, while being entertained and having fun at the same time! We definitely recommend it!
