From School Library Journal
Grade 7 Up-Organized by continent, this multicultural cookbook presents recipes from chefs who own or cook in ethnic restaurants around the United States. The individuals discuss their childhood memories as they introduce some of their favorite recipes. Excellent-quality, full-color photographs and decorative illustrations accompany their stories. In addition, some facts about a culture, area, or cuisine are highlighted. The recipes represent typical food of the culture and should appeal to anyone with adventurous tastes. Dishes include main courses, sides, salads, and appetizers as well as desserts. Ingredients are listed in a clear fashion, and directions are concise and easy to follow. When unusual ingredients are called for, suggestions are offered for where to find them or alternatives are identified. Organizational aides include a table of kitchen math, some cooking tips and pitfalls to avoid, a table of contents that indicates the chef and culture, and a recipe index. This appealing title will be a valuable tool for those interested in learning about the foods of other cultures.
