Book Description

February 1, 2002
A chance encounter that leads to a spiritual awakening . . . an awe-inspiring coincidence . . . a soulful connection to a strange new place . . . Magical Souvenirs brings together over 60 true accounts of mystical journeys of both the body and the spirit.

From a vacationer in Egypt who suddenly recites an obscure prayer in flawless Arabic, to a prisoner who mentally travels back to her childhood and wakes up with a fresh-picked daisy in her hand, to a couple visited by the spirit of their deceased son in a New Mexico church, Magical Souvenirs takes readers on an inspirational odyssey to other places and worlds. Whether you are traveling to historic landmarks, sacred sites, or the mysterious depths of the soul itself, these touching and uplifting stories will transport you to a realm where prayers are answered and where everyday miracles happen.

"These enchanting stories shine a light along the path where reality and miracles meet." (Deepak Chopra)

"Arielle Ford presents insights into the human condition . . . .The magical, mystical experiences can be life-changing, for what they show us about who we really are." (Neale Donald Walsch, author of Conversations with God)

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

The highly recommended Magical Souvenirs is for readers who relish the inexplicable moments of travel: the bizarre coincidences, true miracles, and still-unsolved mysteries. This collection of stories, edited by Arielle Ford, features dispatches from the edge of the world and even the edge of consciousness. (Ford includes a section called "Dreams and Visions" where people speak of travels inside their minds.) In the section called "Unexplainable," Jeremiah Sullivan writes of a harrowing, but ultimately friendly, close encounter with a great white shark while filming for Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom off the coast of Australia. In "Sacred Sites, Synchronicity and Shamanism" Jesse Heller-Frank writes of visiting as a teenager a local "storyteller" in Israel who mystically healed her troubled relationship with her father. Kathleen McGowan writes about "The Wrong Pub at the Right Time," in which she and her friend stumble into a Dublin pub after an exhausting day of travel only to meet the men they will each marry. In a section about "Prophecy and Omen," editor Arielle Ford writes of the fortune-telling birds on the streets of Hong Kong that sang out the accurate prediction that she would marry within four years. One of the greatest appeals is that the contributors are not long-winded, big-name writers. They are everyday folks who may as well be sitting at your dinner table, telling fascinating tales in four pages or less. --Gail Hudson

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly "magical souvenir!", March 28, 2002

A friend gave me this book for my birthday a few days ago, and I stayed up half the night with it. I'm getting on in years and cannot travel as much as I used to, but this is the next best thing! Actually, just as good but different, as one needs no suitcases or airplane tickets for these soul journeys. A wonderful and inspiring read for old and young alike. Solves my gift-hunting task for the coming Christmas!

5.0 out of 5 stars CAN'T PUT THIS ONE DOWN, March 19, 2002
By
This review is from: Magical Souvenirs: Mystical Travel Stories from Around the World (Mass Market Paperback)
Many of us have had mystical experiences but are reluctant to share the unexplainable in out lives. Arielle Ford, in her new book, Magical Souvenirs, has inspired ordinary people (and a few famous ones) to tell their stories - particularly those involving travel. As Arielle explains in her introduction, travel creates more "time and space for something to happen . . . and to notice the unusual." From the first chapter of a woman in prison who had an out of body experience to the last stories of divine interventions, this book gives us courage to believe and follow our dreams, visions and synchronicities. A compelling can't-put-it-down read.

5.0 out of 5 stars don't want this one to end, March 31, 2002

This review is from: Magical Souvenirs: Mystical Travel Stories from Around the World (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a book I like so strongly that I had to write a review. The true stories
of other people's experiences always appeal to me because stories connect us
to each other. These are mystical experiences, dream-time, past-life
regressions, synchronicities, and just surprising unexpected things that have
happened to change other's lives. We can all learn from them and perhaps
renew our own hopes.
