A brilliant text for the neophyte,

I don't know what the other reviewers are complaining about, there are numerous texts on magic in print and many of them are for the more adept student (why not try Julius Evola's work), but I found this to be one book I recomment most highly to beginners. It covers the most important aspects of what is fundamental to all magical workings: concentration and visualization exercises. This book, in conjunction with Peter J. Carroll's Liber Null & Psychonaut, lay down the groundwork using semantics that are easy to grasp and not overly burdened with ritual, dogma, and other baggage from magic's past. Highly suggested.

Finally a book that is written for the advanced practioner. This is not a rehash of material written by others. This is unique. This is material you haven't seen before. Mrs. Ashcroft-Nowicki and Mr. Brennan have put together a true workbook for those interested in the advanced magical work of the creation of the homunuculus, along with practical exercises for developing the ability to do so. Make no mistake, this is work. But if you are willing to put in the effort to perform this art, the tools you will need are here.

Truly magical. This book comes under the heading of "I wish I had read this years ago". These two authors write seamlessly, you can hardly tell where one leaves off and another begins. They interact very well. On the theoretical side there is a wealth of knowledge to delve into and thimk about. This part alone kept me alternately reading and thinking for almost a week. I did not want to miss a word. Then I got to the practical side and had to keep re-reading paragraphs because I kept getting new insights. All in all a remarkable book . I hope they write more. The combination of scientific and practical information is stunning, and so down to earth, unlike the airy fairy stuff that is published nowadays.

I'm a fan of both of these authors, but this book just takes too long to get to the point. The authors seem to feel a need to set up a detailed intellectual rationale for the existence of the 'astral' plane, and for human ability to work with it. They take up what amounts to the first half of the book with essays and examples, and only in the second half do they even begin to address actual techniques. All in all still interesting, but I'd expect more meat from these writers.

If you've ever practiced magick and felt that there was maybe some minor detail missing from the experience, something more you could do to make it more effective, some secret that's been kept from you but you knew was just under your nose, this is the book for you!!! The exercises and ideas in this book will help you to realize your full potential! I'm not giving away any of the details of the book, but I am telling you that if you're serious about your art, then you should pick this up...If you learn just one single thing that's new, it'll be worth the price!!

What I most like about this book is its dual authorship and its well structured format. I first read this book in 2002 and have dipped into it many times since, each time finding something new (which is always a good sign). I think the most important thing for the reader to realize is that both of the authors are writing from their experience, this is not a book of theory, which is why (I think) the tone is so accessible. It's like a conversation between friends, and if you read it like that you will discover much of value.

Describes the astral "laws" of physics from an experiential viewpoint, not just textbook. You can tell the authors speak from experience.

If you been on the sacred path many of the concepts here will just be another puzzle piece to the bigger picture.
I have to mention I have a background in NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming), hypnotheray and Hawaiian Huna (spiritual teachings of empowerment). I mention this because I realize how much I can get from this book having that background. Some of the book is a bit wordy (and that's just my preference) that's why I gave it a four. Meaning it's a bit metaphorical and there are parts I can skim through because I get the point the authors are trying to convey. And some of the language is bit old for this time period. The major concepts here are learning how to enhance your own creativity, awareness of the world (inside and outside of you), developing good habits and really taking personal responsibility for your own thoughts. There is such a wealth of information here. Good tools for real life. Not just concepts. The book talks about modeling (this is my languaging of it) These are foundational tools. If you understand the concepts to what magic really is you can manifest some great stuff. The book is valuable because you read too many theory based books and they forget to tell you the techniques. Like the idea behind "The Secret". It's a well intentioned concept but they forgot to tell you how to do more specific ACTION steps to manifest. (like learning how to let go of negative emotions because you can manifest what you fear as well) It is like a feel good idea that you can talk about all day long but if you don't take the right steps you are left wondering what the heck happened. This book is a great library resource for all students on their spiritual path. It's obvious to me that the authors are great "magicians" themselves. They are experts. Just like a doctor that has to go to years of school to be where they are, you must keep this frame of mind when you practice these concepts. It takes time and experience. I got what I needed out of this book. Intention is key before you read it. Good luck!

First of all, let me say that I am a big lover of quantum physics books as well as anything on meditation as well as new brain wave technologies. Lest the reader of my review take me to be closed minded or a simpleton. But I agree with what another reviewer said. I too "have no idea as to what the authors are getting at" and in fact couldnt get myself to read past page 46. I was dying of boredom from unrelated facts(very boring at that). It starts off with a long boring fable about a supposed wolfman in Spain. What the purpose is I dont know. Skips its way thru the relationship of mathematics and magic of which they made no connection as far as I could see! I had to start reading it from the back after page 46 andf then when they got into more fables and gibbersh, and talk of vampire energy, I started dozing off. This book is a mish mosh of celtic fables, laced with boring math examples and an attempt at quantum mechanics. THE WORST BOOK I EVER BOUGHT! I cannot believe these 2 have written numerous books. I really cant. The good thing about this book, is that is truly proves anyone can write a book and make money, so if you are planning to write a book, read this for inspiration...Not! The real lesson here is I will never again buy a book that has the word magic or magical in it's title. Not that I dont believe, but it's too salesy and not to be taken seriously when you need to add it into a title.
Also as an aside to reviewers: Do not trust reviews where the person has no other books reviews except the one they are giving 5 stars to. To me, it means they are a shill or a plant by the author to get a phony rave review. Always check for that! |
