4.0 out of 5 stars Informative, Well Researched and Useful, August 25, 2004
By
This review is from: Magick of Reiki: Focused Energy for Healing, Ritual, & Spiritual Development (Paperback)
Mr. Penczak explores Reiki in this book with a skilled hand, excellent research, and adds new dimensions to the practice of Reiki.

Mr. Penczak has put much of his own research in one handy book, including a basic history, hand positions, new symbols, different Reiki methods and traditions, Reiki in Ritual and spellwork and much, much more.

His use of Reiki, and his experiences in incorporating techniques such as crystals into Reiki, using a Reiki Protection Shield, working distance healing, or his personal experiences with other Traditions serves as a open door for the reader to explore Reiki on a whole new level. Mr. Penczak includes all the caveats, and all the potential for using Reiki. He discusses the traditional stories and explanations that have been handed down and includes his own research and his own theories and findings. The book is not just for those on a magical path, but for those who are curious about Reiki and travel any spiritual path.

I particularly enjoyed reading someone else's experiences in working with some of the new symbols that have come to light over the past few years. Some of his experiences validate my own working with these symbols. I was especially pleased that he also noted his experiences with Shamballa Reiki as I have had some very similar experiences. It was interesting to find commonalities in personal experiences. It is almost a validation of personal experience and allows the practitioner to feel they are advancing and growing in the field.

I like his inclusion of 'New Age Add-ons', such as 'Reiki Spirits'. His book serves as an update on what else is going on in the Reiki field, what new facets are being included, what other teachers and students are learning, and covers ground that otherwise you would need to research yourself.

Yet Mr. Penczak maintains the traditional beliefs of Reiki: the universal energy, the higher good, obtaining permissions before applying Reiki. These are not traditions, these are truths. The basics of Reiki can not be changed, it is a universal energy, and when used for the higher good, and with permissions, is a very useful companion therapy.

Must reading in this book, I feel, is his section on 'The Future of Reiki'. Discussion on ethics, fallacies, Reiki and the law, and personal growth should discussed and explored.

Mr. Penczak offers us a wonderful book filled with useful information, good research, and personal insights and experiences into Reiki. It is in easy to understand language, is not path specific, and the book is easy to reference. An excellent beginners handbook, a good overview for the curious and will also attract the attention of masters in the inclusion of symbols and Traditions as well as current updates to the field. boudica

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to magickal libraries, November 10, 2004
This review is from: Magick of Reiki: Focused Energy for Healing, Ritual, & Spiritual Development (Paperback)
Reiki is an ancient practice of acknowledging and working with the universal life force to promote physical healing and spiritual exploration. Experienced Wiccan author and teacher Christopher Penczak pre-sents Magick Of Reiki, an in-depth exploration of the history, mythos, variations, and degrees of Reiki, as well as tips, tricks, and techniques for seamlessly integrating Reiki into magickal practice, psychic development, talisman empowerment, and more. Though many traditional Reiki practitioners would not consider it a magickal art, those who follow the path of magick can only imbue greater strength in their work by drawing upon the nigh-limitless energy of all surrounding life. Clear symbols and diagrams, with explicit instructions in how to draw them exactly as they have been used for countless centuries, enhance the straightforward text that walks the reader through basic, intermediate, and some advanced techniques that channel Reiki to one's advantage. An excellent addition to magickal libraries and Metaphysical Studies supplemental reading lists.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST for anyone interested in alternative healing, August 31, 2005
This review is from: Magick of Reiki: Focused Energy for Healing, Ritual, & Spiritual Development (Paperback)
The Magick of Reiki by Christopher Penczak is a wonderful book for people interested in alternative healing. The author is skilled in the Magick, which he describes as "partnering with the universe to create change" and details ways it is used, called by other terms, in all the great world religions. Penczak is also a deeply spiritual person whose skills as a Master of Reiki are well-known. In this book he shows the novice who is serious about learning the art and faith of laying on of hands for healing purposes, how to learn the skills and disciplines required. Christopher is both a practitioner and teacher of reiki and draws from his many years of experiences of healing in both this field and magick. His methods go back to the beginning of reiki healing as taught in Japan, and he details not only the disciplines but also the secret symbols that must be learned. With many examples of healing and demonstrating great faith and humility, he teaches in the simplest terms so that anyone dedicated to the practice can learn how to become the empty vessel through which God works for healing beyond anything understood by science. The book is excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Double Wow!!, October 6, 2005
This review is from: Magick of Reiki: Focused Energy for Healing, Ritual, & Spiritual Development (Paperback)
Having broken my back and been exposed to Reiki only this year (2005) - wow what a eye-opener my year has been. Through the awesome power of reiki I returned to work (albeit at part-time)in just over 3 weeks having crushed one vertebrae and broken 4 others, within 8 weeks I was full-time again. I went from 7.5 Codalgan a day to only 1 in just 3 treatments (2 weeks). So with everything that I experienced during my healing I have been dissappointed by traditional reiki books no matter which lineage it follows because there was always something missing, those extra things that happen to you during a reiki treatment, jugs full of water dripping slowly onto your back, 5 or 6 sets of hands placed on you at once when only one physical being is in the room with you, the overwhelming urge to giggle when a certain spirit puts their hands on your body, bubbling explosions, rippling nerves and muscle tissue, "tens machine" treatments, "remobilization treatments" and treatments which last for hours after the healer has left the building, waking up in the middle of the night with someone's hands on you, being poked or proded in the night and much, much more. All these types of responses are given a good hearing in the Magick of Reiki. Christopher summarises all of the different types of lineage, the symbols that the different practioners use the stuff that happens that shifts your healing "beyond an energy experience" and gives you the key to enter the realm of "magick". Since February I have been experiencing and developing my "magick" and I didn't even realise it!!! Christopher describes how he blends the many different styles of reiki to best suit his own experience and healing style and promotes his readers to do the same. I think this would be a great book for anyone wanting to try out some modern reiki traditions - there are after all 14 of them now!! Christopher helps us to tip toe through the maze with his usual love and light...thumbs up for this one - would make a great christmas gift to anyone you know who has done reiki one, two or masters.

5.0 out of 5 stars refreshing perspective, August 26, 2007

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Magick of Reiki: Focused Energy for Healing, Ritual, & Spiritual Development (Paperback)
As a pagan I was drawn to this book because of the title. I have been initiated into the traditional Usui system of Reiki. I've read other books on Reiki and found this to be very refreshing and open-minded. It resonated for me because the author is able to explore many views in a sensitive manner. Quite a different approach from what I had been exposed to in my training and experience with other practitioners and teachers.
I like that he includes many other symbols to work with. My favorite "alternative " symbol is the OM.
Based on reading this book, I will purchase one of his others. His writing style makes the topic very accessible and clear.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful addition to any Reiki practitioner's library!, May 12, 2007
This review is from: Magick of Reiki: Focused Energy for Healing, Ritual, & Spiritual Development (Paperback)
I received training and have achieved Level I in the traditional Usui Reiki method in 2000, and although Reiki is not my main occupation, I have always been on the lookout for additional education in this area. Most of the material available on this topic is either overly simplistic, overly fluffy, or overly hoity-toity. It is difficult to find material that is grounded in tradition, accessible in language, and creative in approach - all at the same time. Besides my original Usui material from my Level I certification, this is the only other Reiki book I own - and unless I decide later to pursue a Master Level in Reiki practice, this will likely be the ONLY additional book on Reiki that I will need. There is much to explore here, and what is even better is that the areas explored in this book (i.e. flower essences) are also areas I have explored, making this book quite useful. It isn't just a great read - it is very accessible to me for reference as well. You are a very gifted teacher Christopher Penczak, and I thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars REIKI - Traditional, Historical and Clearly Put Forth as such..., October 21, 2005
By
This review is from: Magick of Reiki: Focused Energy for Healing, Ritual, & Spiritual Development (Paperback)
...yet, Mr. Penczak, unlike any author of which I am familiar to date, shares non-traditional "Reiki" without mistreatment or disrespect to Traditional. Frankly, I found some of the modern idealogies to have quite fascinating inter-connective possibilities.

Traditional Reiki can remain un-changed - just as I was taught-yet why can I not add stones or scents to further stimulate the power of my patient's inner self? As a Traditional Master | Teacher I see absolutely no reason why I cannot.

This author is most fascinating; I read this book in four days! Typically, a book such as this one would have been for reference only, but instead I was locked in from the beginning by the writing style of this author, and read this work from cover-to-cover.

Christopher Penczak - you did right to decide to write, teach and see patients full time as this is your "calling". Never stop writing, my friend, as your words are ordered from something "on High".

5.0 out of 5 stars Reiki Master, July 9, 2006
This review is from: Magick of Reiki: Focused Energy for Healing, Ritual, & Spiritual Development (Paperback)
I have read many books on Reiki, and after a while you have just about heard it all. This book in very interesting, has many different ideas that are worth giving thought to, and I am of the school that symbols are sacred but do not need to be kept secret. I found the sections on the different schools of Reiki to be very informative. This book is a must for you Reiki library.

5.0 out of 5 stars The real deal!, July 9, 2010
As a beginning Reiki enthusiast, I received my first attunement in April this year (2010). I had come across the term Reiki in a few spiritual healing manuals, and Intuition leaned heavily upon me to check it out. I found a lot of directionless talk about Reiki. Not until I came across Magick of Reiki did I have any clue what was "real" out there in Reiki cyberspace.

For me, Mr. Penczak drew parallels between Reiki and all other spiritual persuits. His main goal in this book is to illuminate what is Traditional Reiki from what is NOT "tradition". Also, and to my intellectual delight, he gave incredible depth to the symbols of Reiki, how to scribe each, and background info about each, which I could not find in any other Reiki tome (and I've purchased about 20). He clearly delineated between fact, fiction, and useful mythology. This work will be a permanent resource for me as I grow in my Reiki path.

Thanks to this book, I know symbols, how to use them, what is "authentic", and what is "additional". He also did a great job roping me into better understanding the world and power of Intention, well beyond any ability of Wayne Dyer or Deepak Chopra. They are good "faces" for this topic, but Christopher Penczak comes across as a true, humble Master.

And for that, Mr. Penczak, I thank you.
