Do yourself a favour and get this book,

This review is from: Magick without Peers: A Course in Progressive Witchcraft for the Solitary Practioner (Paperback)
If you are looking for a book that while explains about Witchcraft, offers more practical workings as well as other magickal techniques then this is the book for you. "Magick Without Peers" is based on the correspondence course the authors produced on Progressive Witchcraft which, in their own words, is a further evolution of Alexandrian and Gardnerian Wicca.
There are three main elements to the Craft which the authors define as Magick, Mysticism and Religion. Unlike other books these elements are covered in depth in this book, and are produced in a manner which is practical for the reader. But there is more. This book seems to continue where other books leave off. It covers many techniques (some not covered in your Scott Cunningham/Farrar books) and visualisations, meditations and rituals. There are also information about the Sabbats and Esbats, a personal insight into the God and Goddess, working with natural energies such as site guardians, and so much more! All written professionally and in an unpretentious manner that has a double benefit of being practical. While written specifically for the solitary practitioner, with a bit of hindsight, this book can be easily adapted to group workings. David Rankine is a well known and highly respected writer/author in the UK. He has over 20 years experience in the occult realms. Ariadne was his wife at the time this book was written. I personally was a student of theirs in the 1990s (both in actual and correspondence) so can vouch for the teachings of this course. Do yourself and favour and grab a copy of this book.

Comprehensive, but common,

I have to admit that with the price I had to pay for this book and the amount of 5 star reviews it was receiving, I expected something much, much better. Although this book does contain a lot of information about various magical techniques I feel that it lacks depth. Also, as an herbalist, I am annoyed that it contains a large section of herb lore, but does not list botanical names for individual herbs. If you are buying this book because it proclaims information on pyschoactive plants, don't. This section is lousy. The herbal section has several problems, besides the lack of botanical nomenclature, it also has pieces of information missing concerning dosage in dealing with a highly poisonous plant.
There is useful information here, but it is just another's BOS, and I find that this all too common that people are publishing their BOS's without the well researched depth to go with it. Peace.

Where have they been hiding this one?,

I have never heard of these authors before, nor the book, but recently whilst surfing the web came accross a UK website ... singing the praises. A few days later, not looking for the book, I saw it in a local bookshop and thought that is was too much of a coincidence to ignore any longer. And right I was! This is the most comprehensive and well written book on Wicca I have yet found. It does not assume anything, it explains everything in plain language and with no mumbo jumbo. I have been practising Wicca for about 10 years now, and still found this book helpful! For beginners it would be THE ULTIMATE HANDBOOK.

Best Magick Primer available,

There are many books on Magick. There are many more on Witchcraft. This book is by far the best magick primer available today, with in depth knowledge and experience shining through on every page. I found the section on Wiccan circle work very useful, the Chakra exercises are now part of my everyday life and that of my probationers, in addition I have taught myself the LBRP from the book and feel very confident in doing it. This book is fantastic, and although it is a little bit more expensive than your average book on Wicca, it is worth every penny. I have heard that David Rankine has just written a book on Crystals and that it will be available in early 2002 - I am looking forward to it with extreme anticipation!

A handy manual for the solitary practitioner,

This book is chock-a-bloc with useful, practical information for any eclectic practitioner, as well as almost anyone else involved in the Craft or dabbling with magick. As a practitioner of magick for nearly two decades myself, and an HP of Wicca for the last decade, I can absolutely recommend this book to any serious student.
