I have reviewed Movie Edit Pro 2004 and this program is A LOT better. The main thing that impressed me was that stability of the program, as well as Magix eliminating errors. It preloads the media files for you when you are importing or editing, to reduce skippy playback. When I say errors, I mean that with MEP2004, I had an error every movie I did. It was really annoying. MEP10 has eleminated those errors and provided more useful help in the help section.

I love the new features! Surround sound: Oh yeah!. Now I can use my audigy 5.1 card when editing. The look of the program has improved to make it more modern. HD video and 16:9 sounds really cool. The new story maker is actually really cool. There are a ton of interesting effects and presets that you could use. I haven't yet tried to use the TV tuner part of the program, but that sounds pretty interesting. DV to MPEG2 sounds good because you can take camcorder footage and convert to MPEG while importing. Okay, now the DVD software that comes with this is not the best, but they have added things like the ability to move the titles and buttons anywhere on the menu, as well as 3D fonts. I haven't yet tried track-freezing, but it sounds like you can edit easier that way.

Alright, now lets look at the price of this software. 60 bucks! For an editor this good! Thats amazing. This program supports features that almost no competitors have in the $50-$100. I think they should have at least made it $100. Whatever. Works for me. Definately a Best Buy. Magix has stepped it up a notch. This is good software!

One of the best editing programs but BEWARE if you plan on making home movies over 20 min. you will more than likely run into crashes...I have used this program on two computers, one is a $3000 machine with a 4400 processor...still crashes.

I have tried them all almost, ulead, pinnacle,sony vegas, but for some reason i keep coming back to magix. Its easy to use it you have the time gives you more then enough effects has both storyboard and timeline view, and is super cheap! The only thing is that if you have an AMD cpu like me you need to download a patch from there web page and it can be hard to find. other wise its pretty solid and rarely crashes. For the price its a great buy.

Movie edit pro now contains a special gui to aid in combining 2 or more clips via alpha channel or (blue, green, white, or black screen). There are so many features that I haven't looked at all of them. This version seems more stable than the previous version (fewer lock ups and it runs quicker on my ancient PC).

I was in Pinnacle hell after I finished a week's worth of video-editing for my wife's upcoming birthday--I was creating a DVD for her when the program started randomly deleting some of my video and photo clips and seizing my brand new, dual processor computer. I've also used Nero, but we all know that crappy software limits you to 99 media objects per slideshow and doesn't allow you to combine video and photo together. I broke down and returned to Best Buy for my no-kidding last try at a reasonable software package. Well, Movie Edit was the only other thing they had! I was really nervious, mainly because of the price. If Pinnacle can sell their TRASH for $100, then I must be getting absolute junk for $50 in Movie Edit Pro 10. I couldn't have been more wrong. Compared the 3 editing softwares mentioned here, this is the EASIEST software to use, has more CAPABILITIES (16 tracks!), and costs just a fraction than the rest. During my week in hell with Pinnacle, my system seized at least 17 times. I've already made 2 DVDs with this software (approx 10-15 minutes in length) and still have yet to seize my computer. I love how any object can be placed anywhere on the timeline tracks--this makes it SO easy to create awesome-looking movies. Furthermore, it didn't take me very long to get used to the functionality -- everything seems much more user-friendly than Pinnacle. AND it doesn't bog your system down. I'm working on DVDs, but I still have a bunch of other programs open at the same time. Even more: while Nero took in excess of 70-80 minutes to burn my previous 5-minute DVDs (Pinnacle only crashed my system every time I tried it), Movie Edit only took about 18 minutes to burn a 15-minute DVD. What a difference! Movie Edit saved me--I can't wait for my wife's birthday--I know she's going to be very happy, too!!

Movie Edit Pro 10 is all you need on your computer to capture video and author DVD discs. I'm still amazed that you get so much for so little cost, but buyer beware -- it takes time to learn and master this software. Once you do, you'll be the happiest videophile on the block! Magix, where have you been all my life?

By reading the previous reviews. I have mixed feeling, of course I have done very complicated projects some over 30 minutes long. It's a RAM hog, I have found I need to save my project as I work becuase it does have a habit to lock up. I like the fact you can go down to one frame (normally this is what leads to most of my crashes).

I do like the fact I can make cartoons and put them in a real work enviroment I used microsoft paint and the borders file to do this (by using a file name like
C:\MAGIX\Movie_Edit_Pro_2004\Borders\4 Border 2\4_border_90_blue
copying the background blue color, using paste from to put in a cartoon character (like spongebob)then using the paint bucket to surround the character with blue, you can make the character move by manipulating the character and saving it under another file name. Note: you can only used this named format i.e 4_border_90_blue, 4_border_91_blue, etc.
Now if you are going to use multiple characters you are going to find that it is very difficult to edit each one on the differnt tracks becuase the track below it will stick to the one on top. To counter this I did it in layers. I did the background and the first character, then export it to make a video file (I'd stay away from the MPEG-4, and use MPEG-2). Once a video was made I'd go back and start a new project and put the made video on the first track then add the second character. Note: after awhile you will notice that each time the previous track is fuzzier than the second. I'm stll experimenting with this process, I hope to have a clear video on each track.

Secondly, the extras are great! I love the footage disk that comes with it, You can create your own music tracks however this is limited to 4 styles (jazz, india, jamacian, classical). With that tho you can create some pretty cool tunes (very time consuming), or you can use music from your favorite CD (use only mp3 and .wav files)

Third, collaging of picture/video using multi track is possible (you to can create a brady bunch type opening for a project)

Forth, Blue screening is possible but teadious. I set up a blue screen stage in my garage using track lighting and a blue tarp as a background Note: make sure you use lots of lighting and wear bright clothes (stay away from greens and blues)

If you combine all these elements you too can make a Mary Poppins type project!

Lastly, expect various other problems like German menus on certain features and when it comes to making a DVD you'll find it to be nerve racking! Don't use all the features unless you have lots of RAM and Hard Drive space. I nomally export files to MPeg-2 Format an burn them on a disc with a differnt DVD burning Program. [...]

Magix Movie Edit Pro "10" is way more awesome than "15" movie edit software I prefer... I am Paul Stark.

Try using the editor under Windows XP OS. I had to reinstall Movie Editor Pro 10 three times. After the thrid time I took the software off my system.

I was so prepared to love this version. I loved Version 2004, and looked forward to all the improvements. Instead it is unuseable.

Transparency rendering is not the same. Alpha channels break proper action of Mix, Transparent, and Chromakey (greenbox, bluebox)

MPG rendering for DVDs and such is broken. The patch on Magix's website is not under Updates, it's hidden in Tools.

Random "Out of Memory" errors on projects that V2004 handled properly even on systems with much less memory, even very small projects cause problems with V10. Fatal errors at random that damage file structures.

The worst part of this is that, according to the Magix Forums on their website, Magix released V10 Plus in Europe and has no plans for now to do any more patches to the plain V10 released in the US. V10 Plus is not available from their North American site, and Magix refuses to sell V10 Plus from their UK site to the US.

V10 Plus is not even the same code- it's actually an update of one of their other much newer editing tools, and does not share the bugs of the plain V10 they sell in North America. It has a lot of extras beyond just the plain fact that it works where V10 plain does not.

From support.magix.net, from a US product evaluator for Magix software:
"EP-10 US is a patch version of Video Deluxe 2, three years old. Features were added but not correctly and some code is missing. EP-10 UK is based on the German Video Deluxe 2005/2006 which is a year old. New features were added and seems no NEW bugs were added."

I have gone back to using V2004 until I can buy V10 Plus from a UK eBay seller.
