1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't do all that it says it does, January 12, 2003
This review is from: MP3 Maker Platinum (CD-ROM)
I bought this program for one reason and one reason only: it was the only CD-burning program among the dozen or so I considered that claimed to be able to convert REAL files to .mp3s or .WAV files. After two hours at the computer and countless consultations of the manual, I re-checked the box to make sure I hadn't misread it. I hadn't - the box definitely lists REAL files among those the program can import and convert, and it also says it's compatible with all types of formats - but this clearly isn't really the case.

It does appear to work as well as any other program with respect to other formats and creating CDs from records and tapes, but the screen layout and the recording process are needlessly cumbersome, and there are a lot of bells and whistles that don't appear to improve the sound quality of the recordings much if at all. For a simpler and more user-friendly program, I recommend Cakewalk Pyro. (It isn't compatible with REAL files either, but it also doesn't claim otherwise.) The only good thing I have to say about Magix right now is that thanks to them, I now know Circuit City's return policy really is as good as their commercials say. It's nice to know some companies don't lie about their products or services.

2.0 out of 5 stars Maybe you can, maybe you can't, March 5, 2003

This product doesn't do what it says it does. I bought it to record internet radio, the box says you can record anything that is playing in the output. It didn't work, I emailed magix and they said my sound card needs to have this feature. But if your sound card has this feature, you wouldn't need mp3 maker.
Anyway, so so program otherwise.
