Like others noted, I received a bulb other than what was pictured.

I was looking for a replacement for my current LED MagLite - not a replacement for the standard bulb maglite.

I recommend them for anyone who has a Mag-Lite or similar style of flashlight.

This bulb is much brighter than the standard bulb the flashlight came with. With the standard bulb there was always a hole in the center of the beam. With this bulb the hole is gone and I have a pinpoint beam that really light things up at long distances. Great bulb for an upgrade without the expense of the led kit.

The vendor did not send the bulb as advertised but rather a little bulb with wires sticking out that had to be installed. I am stuck at home with an injured shoulder that made this very difficult to do. Besides, otherwise I wouldn't have ordered it and paid shipping. Once I finally got it working it only lasted a week. It was too much trouble and I didn't want to spend any more money on it so I just said forget it. However, I did fill out the Amazon request to rate the vender. To my pleasant surprise Amazon contacted me and refunded my money including the shipping.

Although the original maglite bulb is shown, what ships is a RETROFIT for their newer "better" bulb.
This retrofit DOES NOT focus a nice pinpoint of light like the original fat bulb.
Good luck using it for long distance!!
I hate it...

For not receiving the item pictured, I'm quite happy. Pictured is the LMXA401 and what I got was the Maglite Mag-Num Star II Xenon kit with three pieces. I'm willing to overlook the mistake because this little thing is bright! Much better than the original LWSA401 Krypton bulb. Definitely not going to complain for the price. I can't speak to the longevity yet, but so far I'm impressed.

I was looking for the old incandescent type bulb like the one that had come with my Maglite when I purchased it. At the time this xenon replacement lamp kit was all I could find. There are no installation instructions, but it was fairly easy to figure out: push the white ceramic base into the socket where the old incandescent bulb had been, screw on the included metal collar, insert the prongs of the xenon bulb into the two holes of the ceramic base.

At first, the collar wouldn't go on and the light wouldn't come on. It took a few minutes to realize the ceramic base needs to be pushed all the way down into the socket. Then, the xenon light didn't seem as bright as the incandescent bulb had been. So I did a search on the web and found a lighting supply store that has the incandescent bulbs. Just got them today and when I popped one in and compared its brightness to the xenon bulb, they seem to be the same. I see no difference between the brightness of the xenon bulb and that of the incandescent bulb. So I removed the incandescent bulb and re-installed the xenon bulb kit. The cost per bulb is higher for the xenon bulb kit. I paid $5.19 for the xenon kit and $3.72 for the incandescent bulb. Caveat: the incandescent bulb comes in a 2-pack, making it $7.44 per pack and the lighting supplier has a $25 minimum order and charges a flat fee of $10 for shipping.

I have no idea how long the xenon bulb is supposed to last (the incandescent one had lasted years), but I don't like paying $5 for a bulb. I gave this product 3 stars because I think it costs too much and is no brighter than the incandescent bulb. I would have given it 4 stars if it had cost less and 5 stars if it had also been an improvement over the incandescent bulb (more cost effective, more energy efficient, more environmentally friendly, etc.). I suggest you not bother looking for the old incandescent bulb because it's no brighter than this xenon bulb.

I used to use Halogen bulbs in my Mag-Lite flashlights until Mag-Lite came out with their new Krypton bulbs. But these Xenon bulbs are even brighter than the improved Krypton bulbs. I recommend them for anyone who has a Mag-Lite or similar style of flashlight. Good job, Mag-lite.

This was not the LMSA301, but instead the LMXA301, which is a newer model of Maglite xenon bulb, and a superior product when used for the intended purpose. (Although from other reviews, it does seem that the LMSA will fit into 3rd-party flashlights that the LMXA won't fit into.)

I have a very small dog and she likes to go out after dark. She is black and tan. I needed a brighter light to see her because she is very fast. This bulb is just what I need. I have large yard and I can follow her over the entire yard without having to chase her. I highly recommend this upgrade to your flashlight. Great for power outages also.
