The Mini Maglite Pro+ is certainly much brighter than the "standard" Mini Maglite LED. It is in fact so bright that one wishes for the dimming control of the older version. To dim the Pro+, one must turn it on while holding the flashlight vertical with the head pointed down. With the older version, on once brought it on full brightness, on a second time in fairly rapid succession turned it on at reduced brightness, and on a third time caused it to strobe. I never knew what the strobe function was for (not the same as the SOS function), but it was there.

The Maglite would further benefit from a constant current circuit, which would maintain lamp brightness over the life of the battery. Fenix and other (more expensive) flashlights have that, but Maglite doesn't.

The Maglite is good for outdoor use, but if you want a mini flashlight primarily for looking inside computers or other equipment, the standard LED mini maglite is cheaper and more appropriate for that purpose.

Still, for $30, one gets a very bright flashlight, which is a big step forward from the older products.

Maglite touts the "full flap" holster for this flashlight. But that's not what is in the package with the new Pro+. One gets the same black pocket that came with the old model. Amazon sells two models of the full-flap holster, and th AM2A056 does NOT fit the Pro+.

These are the same quality of old but much brighter for a reasonable price. The Pro+ has an ingenious switch for high and low power; pointed up and on is high, pointed down and on is low. Note the Pro has only the high brightness. I would like to see a headband offered as a substitute for the holster. I had to buy a headband separately. I’m currently using this as my night cycling headlamp with the headband and it definitely lights up the road ahead! It is not as easy as some headlamps to adjust up or down but it works. The lamp feature is a great option during power outages or camping when used like a candle too. I also prefer this light because it uses AA batteries that are readily available and frequently on sale. And Oh yes did I mention that it is really bright! Recommended.

I bought this believing the 245 lumens claim. It's been a while since I bought one of these so I thought technology had improved.
I have a maglite 200XL that claims 176 lumens.
Comparing these two side by side looks like they are the same light output. Same range. Same surface.
The 200XL then is superior since it has a thumb switch rather than the old twist on/off method.
It's a decent flashlight though, good for a backup in the car.

Lots of light from a pair of AA batteries. I like the way you adjust the hi lo output. Much better than the twisting several times. Point the light downward and turn it on and it's low power, face the light up ward and turn it on for full power. Once on, it stays in that mode until you turn it off. No annoying flash modes. Great flashlight for stagehands.

I purchased this light as an upgrade to the older 77 lumen mini mag Led. I cant believe how bright it is, even on low mode its almost as bright as the old one. I would recommend this to anyone. Also pick up a set of rechargeable batteries, I got a set of energizer 2300mah and they work great.

PROS: Super bright, solid build quality, runs on basic aa batteries.
CONS: Be careful around pets not to shine it in their eyes!

When it lights it is great, but sometimes it does not like to work, one has to shuttle and then it comes up again...

Seems the elecronic inside doesn't work properly

I am from Europe and have bought it during a visit in the States, that's the only reason why I do not send it back.

I bought this flashlight because it was LED and had one of the highest candlepower ratings of any Maglite flashlight. On full power it's almost too bright to see whatever you are trying to look at. I frequently use the 25% power function. To turn that on you hold the flashlight pointing straight down and turn it on.

The only reason I gave this 4 starts instead of 5 is because Maglite makes the directions in such tiny print on a huge manual. It took me awhile to find the part in the directions that explains how to use the 25% power function.

Otherwise this is a phenominal flashlight I would recommend to anyone.

I have always liked Maglite. They gave us the first flashlights that weren't total junk, and they made them affordable too. To this day, they are made in USA, and that is icing on the cake.

LED emitters (light bulbs) have advanced rapidly in the past few years, and Maglite simply did not keep up. Happily, this particular Maglite has a thoroughly modern emitter. It is bright too!

The light seems reliable to me. Another reviewer has noted that his light will heat up like a bomb and turn itself off. I have not experienced this problem myself. Perhaps the reviewer was wearing insulating gloves at the time? I believe that my grubby little hand (and its bloodstream) serves to cool my light adequately.

My big complaint involves the "focusing" feature of this light. This is the feature that allows you to choose between a small spot of light, and a wide flood of light, and everything in between. It doesn't really work well, and in Maglite's history it never has either. What you get is a collection of concentric, light and dark rings. By twisting the head of the light, you can alter the pattern of the rings. That's it.

This light as shipped will roll off a table if you let it. I bought an accessory kit meant for the old mini-Maglites and I find that the accessories fit this Maglite nicely. The accessories include a pocket clip and a rubber hood that fits the head of the light. Either of these accessories will prevent the light from rolling. Recommended.

I am pleased with this light. It is fairly priced and dependable.
