This review is from: Magna Carta and the England of King John (Hardcover)
Magna Carta and the England of King John is an anthology of scholarly essays by a variety of learned authors concerning the era of England between 1199 and 1215 - the time when the Magna Carta was created and marked a resounding transformation in the relationship between ruler and ruled. The primary focus is on elaborating the social, economic, legal, and religious background forces at the time the Magna Carta came into being; also under scrutiny is how those who personally knew King John came to perceive him. Individual essays include "Baronial Paranoia in the Reign of King John", "Justice without Judgment: Criminal Prosecution before Magna Carta", "What Did Magna Carta mean to Widows?" and more. Highly recommended, especially for college library British history and world history collections.
