This Christmas we bought our second set of Magna-tiles. Their play value has lasted all year, and the expansion of the set was almost as exciting as the first set. My son is disabled, and these are great user-friendly toys with which any child can succeed. They've also survived the dog's inquisitive mouth. We personally like the clear colors, but were tempted to try the opaque tiles (with opening door/window). Last but not least, the tiles foster creativity.

We got these because my son's preschool teacher recommended them, but then someone else bought him Magformers, which are waaay better. These tend to fall apart more easily and the big problem with them is hard to explain, but here goes: they are straight-edged with 90-degree corners, which (with the tendency to fall apart) makes it difficult to build more complex shapes, like regular polyhedrons. The other day, my son and I made a regular icosohedron out of magformers and it even withstood a little tossing around, and that would never happen with these. Because of the shape, they fit together best at right angles to each other. I would skip these and get magformers instead.

Not only do I agree with the reviewers about how they, are fun for everyone easy to clean up and they have lasted 6x longer than any toy in the house. My mother(also a teacher) bought my kids the big set after playing with the 32 piece set at her house. I thought she was crazy spending all that money on a toy. They get played with every single day, my daughter just built herself a Bakugan Holder. They have been in my house 3 YEARS and have not had one break or crack or anything. My children have been playing with them from 2- 7.5YEARS OLD, and continue to do so. I think they have lasted longer than anything I have ever purchased for them. Clean up is kind of fun because the magnets allow them to be picked up with ease. I LOVE THESE THINGS I don't think my children will ever outgrow them, and I find them much more fun to build with than any other toy out there!!!!

This would make my top 3 list in terms of must have toys. I have 4 girls (7,6,5,4) and they LOVE this toy. Hours of fun---they play with these daily. They can't destroy them! The children use a lot of creativity and imagination while building endless designs of castles, barns, houses, hospitals, etc. We've had lots of other ages of children come over (1-10) and ALL have been captivated by this. (I'll have to admit, I even like building with these, and have caught many other adults in there playing with them!) We do not have a lot of toys at our house, but this is one thing we couldn't live without. They travel well (in a car with a cookie sheet), and store well (stack neatly---magnetic, so they stick together and can be put in a container out of sight.) SO Worth the money; I wondered if they would be--no dobut about it. I bought a smaller set initially to try it out and then bought the 100 piece.

My first encounter with these started at my daughters daycare. She is 3. When she would come home everyday I would ask her what she did, and she would tell me "i played with magnets and ponies". I thought magnets? Ok...but then she kept saying it. So I happened to be picking her up one day and all of the kids were playing with the opaque version. They were throwing things together like it was nobodies business, I was so amazed. Anyway, one of the teachers tells me one day how this other parents was able to find these online, though they were expensive. Soo..Christmas was coming up and this seemed like the best gift, since she loved them so much. So I had grandma buy her the clear version here. We finally broke them out of the box a couple days ago. And oh my goodness, laying forgotten on the ground are her princesses and ponies now. She literally played with these for 2 hours straight one day. She showed off all of the castles she could make - and this is only the 32 piece set! I was shocked to say the least. My only regret is not purchasing the bigger set!
As for durablitiy, I've seen the condition of the set they have at the daycare - some of the pieces are indeed chipped. However, they still all stick together. Considering that that set gets daily play from around 10 kids...I'd say that's pretty durable, which is another reason I was willing to spend a little extra money on these.
I don't understand the reviews from some people saying that these are very weak magnets. Whenever my daughter gets them out, there are a couple of pieces that she even struggles to get apart.
This is such a great toy, and I know there are many out there like it, but I swear by magna tiles.

My son received this for his 2nd birthday a few months ago, because of his intrest in it at a local children's museum. All I can say is that I'm uncertain who loves it more, him or his parents! It certainly sparks creative thinking as we try to outdo each other in our creations! I didn't realize that I had it in MYSELF to be so creative. This toy just brings it out of you. I swear I find myself playing with it for long periods of time when I'm actually just supposed to be putting it away! It's quite peaceful actually! The mathmatical concepts it's already teaching my son make it priceless as well! He's learning spacial reasoning, critical thinking (will this structure hold if I...) as well as shapes, colors and creativity.

If you are like me, I faithfully read all the reviews before purchasing an item and went with others suggestions and purchased the clear tiles. Personally I like the clear tiles! The uses seem to be endless. I must add that although it is a large monetary investment, I feel it is wiser to purchase the set of 100 as 32 simply isn't enough. This toy will certainly span the ages, thus worth the investment.
