I currently do not have cable, nor plan to get it soon, but I got this TV anyway because I wanted something larger. Due to the 2009 broadcasting changes, I wasn't going to get another analog set. It's a great TV -- I get all the channels I used to have on my old one via the antenna, but MUCH clearer. One of my favorite things about this set is that it has the pin connector to work as a computer monitor. If you have very little space and want a product that can multi-task, this is a great thing.

This is a great TV. I bought it primarily for playing video games, and it doesn't dissapoint. My Xbox 360 looks crystal clear and beautiful running 720p. The TV can run 1080i, but I like 720p better. The menu is easy to use, and it doesn't have any complexities. The only problem I have with it is that when I play PS2 or PS1 games, the graphics are a bit choppy, due to the system's inability for HD games. The text is hard to read in those instances, but the graphics are easy to get over. Otherwise, this is a perfect TV.

I originally was going to buy a bigger screen. However, after standing back about 15 feet, I noticed the picture was so vivid, and it didn't diminish. For anyone with a smaller living room, it's great. I'm completely satisfied. DVD was easy to hook up too.

I've had this set for less than one year and it is already failing. The set has difficulty starting, looses channels and turns itself off repeatedly. The picture completely fails and the unit screeches and blacks out. The warranty is exceedingly **POOR**. One year on parts, however, when I contacted Magnavox customer support I was told there is no repair service on this model, but they would replace with a new unit for an additional $275.00!!!!(No Warranty??). Avoid this item completely!

I bought this TV for my home office so I could play videogames on my PS3 during my breaks. When using an HDMI cable the games and Blu-ray movies are gorgeous! If you are patient and take the time to adjust the picture and resolutions just right, you will get more than your money's worth from this TV. I'm not sure why it only mentions 720p, because it plays Blu-ray movies (and certain videogames) at 1080p.

Be warned that regular analog TV will look much worse. And so will SD DVDs. In the meantime, using an HDMI cable helps clean up regular DVDs a great deal.

If you are into "next gen" gaming, HD movies, and are on a budget, this TV is a great choice.

Update Jan '09: After one year this TV has stopped working. ONE YEAR! That stinks no matter the price!

Our TV just gave out after owning it for less than a year. The power button is lit red but wil not advance. The TV will not go beyond a black screen. I called customer service to be told, for a fee of $274.62 plus tax they will replace it. I can buy the same tv on the web for the $240 range!

Not good customer care or product.

I bought the Magnavox 19MF337B TV. While the picture quality is good, the unit went bad in 11 months of normal use. It makes a loud popping noise and then shuts down completely. Apparently there are capacitors that go bad in this model, and it dies. I have read the same complaint many places on the web about this model. Since your warranty with Maganavox is only good for 90 days, you are out of luck. Stay away from Magnavox/Phillips TVs. You're wasting your money.

Two years after purchasing a 19" HDTV television it started acting-up. It would make this HORRIBLE noise every time we turned it on... it would shut-off then turn on... then make the noise again and shut off... and repeat this for about 15 minutes until it would stop. I sent the company a letter. Two weeks later no reply. I did a Google search and found hundreds and hundreds of unhappy customers. See for yourself at [...]

Yes, it is past the manufacturers warranty, but a company that makes a product that sells for anywhere between $300 and $3000 that doesn't last more than two years should 1) be ashamed and 2) be out of business.

Do your homework and find a company that makes a decent TV.

I have had the same problems everyone else complains of: screeching sound (that scares the hell out of you), powering on then off. I read that it was a result of the power supply, so I ordered a new one ($44) and installed it, it still has the same problem. The other part that has been recommended to change is a scaler board ($263) which costs almost as much as the TV did. This TV was great now it sucks...Hard.

We purchased this TV almost 2 years ago. It had worked great, up until about a week ago. Now, we have static for the first 5 minutes after we turn the TV on, until it warms up. And the picture has started flashing in & out occasionally. I would expect a TV to last for more than 2 years. We will not be buying another Philips/Magnavox LCD TV.
