Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
For those of you used to the 70 pound 26" CRT-based television sets from the old days, you'll be shocked when you easily pull this 17 pound LCD-based television from the box. The TV can be quickly unpacked, maneuvered, and installed by one person without needing any assistance. Start out by placing the set upside down on a soft area to install the tabletop base with four screws. That's the end of the construction process. Now place the set in your desired location, hook up your antenna (remembering that over-the-air HDTV is of wonderful quality in many locations) and any other sources (including HDMI sources), and finally connect the output terminals to your home stereo if you desire.

Put the provided AAA batteries into the remote and turn on the TV. It instantly turns on and begins scanning for channels, a process which takes a couple of minutes. I encountered no difficulties with this initial setup. Menu items allow you to adjust the video and audio quality.

The set is all black plastic with a fairly large (and somewhat obtrusive) Magnavox logo just below the screen. The CD/DVD player insertion slot is on top of the set behind the bezel. If you're going to frame in this set, you'll want to leave significant space on the top to access the disc entry slot. The screen itself is bright with accurate color reproduction when viewed on center. I experienced some washing out of whites, so when watching a news broadcaster wearing a white shirt, it was not possible to distinguish the seams in his shirt which I could easily see on a 1080p Sony reference monitor. Move a bit too far to the right or left and the picture shifts to the red. Move up or down from center and you'll find contrast variation beyond an acceptable level.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to set this up, it was simply a matter of attaching the base, connecting a few wires and plugging it in. The set scanned the cable system while I inserted the batteries into the remote, we finished about the same time and I was ready to start watching TV. The hardest part of the whole thing was getting the heavy monster it replaced out of the way.

The picture is quite clear, the color and sound are both good. The DVD works well (for the most part), the controls on the remote are fairly intuitive. I had been a bit concerned about the size of the set, the one it replaced was just slightly larger but even so I can still see the set quite clearly from across the room (about 20 feet). So far the only problem I have had has been that it hung up on the DVD one time. I could not get the set to return to the regular viewing mode even after removing the DVD, and turning the set off, then back on etc. The problem was solved by unplugging both the set and the cable box and restarting everything. The problem has not recurred so I am hoping for the best.

I am quite happy with this product and am would not hesitate to recommend it.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
It is uncanny how television technology has advanced in just the last three years alone. If it all seems like incrementalism, from 720p to 1080p, 120hz, wide angle LCD's and thinner profiles, the end result is television sets that are affordable, but rival what was top of the class just a couple of years earlier.

This set represents a beginning edge of that curve, with very middle of the road features competently executed. You do not get state of the art motion compensation, ultra high refresh rates, thinner profiles, led backlighting and so on. What you do get a a decent television at a reasonable price.

Connectivity is, in the same middle of the road vein, good enough. You get two HDMI inputs, s-video/composite, antenna and component. You do not get VGA (unlike what is said in the description), but probably won't miss it. The television has an ATSC/Analog tuner for receiving either unencrypted cable television or over the air signals. The connectors are split between those on the side of the set, and those on back. The labeling is large and colorful through stickers adjacent to the connectors themselves. It is nit-picking, but it would be even better if the labels were with the connectors, not beside them, but kudos for at least making them easy to read, as opposed to the common raised, molded plastic lettering on most sets. The digital audio out is not optical. Two analog audio outs are included as well, which passes all audio signals, including those from the HDMI inputs. These are not variable audio out, so can't be controlled from the television's remote - you will have to adjust volume via whatever audio device you are connecting to these outputs.

I was very happy with this TV/DVD combo at first. It was perfect for the room where I workout to DVDs. After 10 months, the DVD player froze. I tried cleaning it and it worked for a few more weeks then froze again. The second time cleaning did not help. I only use the DVD player for 30 minutes 3 days per week MAX which is not very much. Also, the warranty is crap. They will not fix the DVD player on my current TV and will only replace the TV with a refurbished TV. I've owned a 19" Magnavox that I use in my kitchen for several years with no problem which is what prompted me to by this one for my workouts. The TV is great for the price, but I will never buy a combo again.
