Great little DVD player--the cheapest you'll find!,
This review is from: Magnavox DVD Player, MWD200G (Electronics)
When I was looking for a basic, inexpensive DVD player to use for exercise videos in my workout room, this is the product I bought. I have been using it for a year now, and I've been extremely satisfied with its performance. I have NEVER had a problem with freezing, skipping, or any other playback issues, even with DVD-R and other DVDs known to have performance issues. Sure, the unit doesn't have any advanced programming or other special features, but it's simple, easy-to-use, and reliable; for the price, you won't find anything better.

Convenient compact DVD Player,

The Magnavox DVD Player (MWD200G) is a virtually portable unit. It is small and lifgt enough so you can move it from room to room or carry it with you to friends who don't own a DVD player at this late stage. It also plays DVDs, DVD-R/-RWs, DVD+R/+RWs & CD-R/-RWs. For video output it has an S-Video Output in addition to the Standard Composite. The Audio Outputs are equally impressive. It has Digital audio output for full 5.1 surround sound capability, which is an incredible feature. That's incredible at this price. This is a very impressive unit for the price and ours is still running perfectly for over a year now.

Great DVD player for the price!!,

I love this little DVD player! I've had it for about 6 months and never had any problems. Plus, anytime I stop a DVD, it remembers where I am when I turn it back on. My other more expensive DVD players, a Toshiba and a Samsung don't do that at all! Love it and the price!

For older TVs only!,

I bought this cheap-o DVD player at Wal-mart after my Playstation 2 decided to stop liking DVDs. It was $30.
Included with the player: 1x composite cable (yellow, for video) 2x stereo cables (red and white, for audio) 1x remote 2x AAA batteries 1x instruction manual Taking it out of the box, I was surprised at how small it was. It's more deep than it is wide, so it will fit in any entertainment center. Installation was obviously simple: Plug it in, hook the video and audio to the TV, and put the batteries in the remote. The first movie I watched on it was Borat, if you care. The player has additional outputs for Coaxial (5.1 surround sound) audio and S-Video. No component or optical outputs for higher-end televisions! I bought a separate S-Video cable so I could use this player with my 10-year old 27" RCA TV. If your TV set has S-Video input, I highly recommend using it; S-Video carries separate signals for color and brightness, so the colors on your movie won't be blended together like they are with normal composite (yellow) cables. The difference is very clear. Although the picture quality is very good, it tends to "flicker" a couple times during a movie in my experience. The brightness jolts for a split-second, which to me is irritating. However, it only does it a couple times per use, and my roommate doesn't notice when it does. It might even be my connection (the TV is over ten years old), so this might not be an issue with the player. The interface is very good. Widescreen movies are played at their correct aspect ratio (some DVD players "squish" the widescreen on the sides so it fits on a normal set) without any tinkering. The remote is also very light and has plenty of buttons (I love to play with the ZOOM feature). I've tried this player with burnt DVD-R discs and they play without a problem. It does take a few seconds for the player to recognize the disc, so be aware. I've heard it works with DVD+R, too, but I haven't tried those. This doesn't play VCDs or SVCDs, but does play MP3 CDs (good for parties if you have a good stereo). This is a very good player for the price, but I only recommend it for older or current low-end TVs. If your set has component (red, green, blue) inputs, then get a different player that has those outputs available.

Phenomenal Value! Works flawlessly!,

I picked up this DVD player for my small 15" LCD TV in our kitchen. I primarily wanted a small, reliable DVD player so that my toddler could watch her Teletubbies, Elmo, and Barney DVD's there during her feedings. The unit comes with an S-video jack, a composite video jack (not component), left and right audio jacks, and a full-featured remote (with batteries no less). The picture is great, the unit is quiet when running, and I honestly can't tell the difference between the video quality from this inexpensive player as compared to my 'higher end' unit that cost six times as much. Considering this set me back only 'thirty smackers' at my local 'China Mart', this is a veritable bargain!

Won't play all formats of home-made dvds,

Overall, it's a nice little dvd player. If you're only playing regular store-bought dvds which are in great condition, then this little player is phenominal, and you'll be quite happy. However, it is a little extra-sensitive to scratched dvds, and it won't play all formats of home-made videos.
We have 2 dvd players. This little magnavox, and a higher quality dvd recorder and player. The higher-end will play through most of the scratches on the dvds, whereas this magnavox will get stuck on most of the same scratches. Also, this magnavox won't play all formats of home videos burned to DVD+R. We burned some from our computer, and some on our dvd recorder, and only some of them play on this magnavox dvd player. I wish I could remember which ones we burned which way, but I can't. If you have a video of an ultra sound from Fetal Photos, it won't play those either. I haven't tested DVD-Rs because I don't have any. But like I said, regular store bought videos (including Netflix, Blockbuster, etc..) play just great, so long as they are in nice condition.

I got this as a Christmas gift from some friends after my last DVD player gave up it's ghost. It's now July...about 7 months later...and this player is dead already. It was fine up until a week ago, where you had to open/close the DVD tray several times to make it read a DVD. Now it won't recognize any disc at all. Sure, it's cheap...but only lasting half a year is still too short for any kind of product to be considered a good buy - at least in my opinion.

*** Update: Its now been 2 years and my 2 dvd players are still going strong. A great purchase!
This dvd player is small, very simple looking and gets the job done. I just installed it today and played a video and it was fine. Time will tell if it will be this way in a year but im optimistic, especically after reviewing other reviews who have indicated that it has performed well after one year. UPDATE: Its been almost a year since Ive had this unit (actually I have two) and they're working fine. A great purchase!

Cheap and not cheerful,
This review is from: Magnavox DVD Player, MWD200G (Electronics)
OK, so this dvd player is cheap so you can't expect too much. However, I didn't expect to see a blue screen everytime I put a disc in and have to turn the player on and off numerous times and take the disc in and out until it played. So not worth it. Spend an extra $20 and get a player that actually works and will last!!
