5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed.
I wanted to tape TV shows and then put them on a DVD to save and share, also wanted to be able to cut out the commercials.
I also wanted to be able to share the shows without knowing or caring what kind of DVD +/- or whatever a friend's machine could play.
This machine does it all. I can record on tape or disk, easily copy from tape to disk or disk to tape. I...

3.0 out of 5 stars It works OK, but it's cheap.
I received the first machine. It took about a week to exchange it. It wouldn't turn on...no power at all. No problems with the exchange. The second has to have a tape in it or it makes a loud machine gun sound of loud rapid clicking. I have used it to make at least 20 DVDs from vcr tapes. Can't figure out how to dub more than one tape to one DVD-maybe you can't. It...

I can cut out the commercials and make the disk readable by any machine.
The instruction book isn't the best, it is a bit confusing, but once I started using the machine I really didn't need the instructions very much.
I did a lot of research on different brands on Amazon and elsewhere before choosing this machine. The features and price were exactly what I wanted and I've been very pleased with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnavox ZV420MW8 DVD/VCR Combo, March 30, 2009

I've always used Sony products BUT over the past few years have become disillusioned with their products. When my Sony combo unit died suddenly, I began to research other DVD/VCR combos and based on several Amazon reviews, decided to give the Magnavox ZV420MW8 a try. I'm not disappointed. Initially, I had to give customer service a call to resolve a problem of my own misunderstanding concerning hook up to my cable box. They could not have been more generous in offering the help I needed, and from then on, set-up and operation of the unit was a breeze. The unit's functionality is intuitive, illustrated simply and concise in the owner's manual. (Unlike my previous Sony products, which required a degree from MIT for set up and operation, or at best an interpreter for the complicated manual they provided.) Perhaps the only fault regarding the Magnavox DVD/VCR combo I would list here is the remote control unit - the buttons are tiny. I ended up using a felt marker to circle the most important buttons for easier access.

We tried out all the features last evening, and found the unit performs exceptionally well.

Can't figure out how to dub more than one tape to one DVD-maybe you can't. It was cheap and did what I wanted it to do. I just couldn't see spending $300 on something that contains a VCR player/recorder in it. It will be obsolete very soon, especially when I convert the last VCR tape to DVD.

1.0 out of 5 stars Look Elsewhere If You Want To Dub From VHS To DVD, February 13, 2009
By
This review is from: Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD Recorder / VCR Combo (Electronics)
I agree with ebl's "very poor" review, that the VCR part of this machine is poorly made. I started to dub some non-copy protected vhs tapes, and I got 4 completed before the VCR part stopped working for me. It would dub to the DVD about halfway through, then the machine would stop altogether, leaving me with a worthless coaster, and a lot of wasted time. It looks like the VCR tracking would go haywire, and that would stop the dubbing process. The instructions says it has auto and manual tracking, and I tried them both, but the crappy VCR still quits working halfway through dubbing now.

If this is happening to you too, I found a work-around. I hooked up an older, good working VCR to this Magnavox, to bypass their crappy VCR. I hooked up the cables to the front ports of this machine, switched to EXT2, which is the connection to the front ports (do this by clicking on the Magnavox's front channel buttons), and now I am able to dub from my good VCR, VHS tapes, to the Magnavox DVD burner. We shouldn't have to do this in the first place, but at least it works. Just waiting for the DVDR part of this machine to fail now. Don't waste your time or money buying one of these things, new or refurbished.

I wasn't a big fan of VCR combo units, but a relative suggested one as a gift idea that I could get them. Some friends have this same machine and loved it. They use it quite a bit, especially for dvd recording. I purchased a refurbished version, which seems to work great. I haven't performed any recordings with it yet, but the playback and picture quality is very good. Seems like you get a lot of options with this machine that others in the price range didn't offer, such as recording tape to dvd, or vhs recording from live feed.

This machine plays and records well, however, I am not happy with the fact that the timer record feature does not work, which kind of defeats the purpose for the most part.

I have purchased a Magnavox Model MWR20V6 from quality CD/DVD and I have been very pleased not only with the product but also the service I have received from the seller. We have been in communication and have been VERY pleasant. The product is AAAA111. I now own 3 of the same VCR/DVD product and would recommend anyone to purchase this product and also, to do business with Quality CD/DVD in MN. I ordered this item on Monday and received it in MO on Friday of the same week. Thank you, Paula M.

5.0 out of 5 stars pleased with this unit, August 31, 2009
This review is from: Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD Recorder / VCR Combo (Electronics)
Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD recorder/VCR combo. I already own one of these remanfactured units, purchased it at a value city before they shut down in our city, So happy to have found another one, reason being it isn't digital so I don't have to have it on to watch tv, and you can still tune to channel 3 or 4(NTSC tuner) and not have to change the input on your tv ( which I find annoying whenever you wanted to use it) it is an older unit(2006) so it has the coax hook up on the back these types of units are rare these days,it is easy to use once you learn everything, found the manual easy to understand, and recordings are very good.I'm hooked up to satelite so I don't need a digital box and everything works just fine, also hooked a home theater system (5.1 channel) to it so recordings, produce great sound.
