This review is from: Magnavox Surround Sound Home Theater System with 5-Disc DVD Player (MRD250S) (Electronics)
I wanted to get a home theatre for my bedroom, not that I wanted it knock my socks off or blow me away, but wanted to experience the same kind of sensation that I get in my living room when viewing a DVD or VCD. I bought this re-manufactured, as to not put too big of a dent into my budget (basically, I am a cheapskate!) Hooked everything up and I was pleased, first because it worked out of the box and instructions were quite clear, with minor exceptions, which I will get to later. I immediately tried a DVD, MP3 disk and VCD, it was all good, viewing angles, Dolby, FF, FR and chapter seeking. Very crisp output, video and audio and surprizingly quite resonant. There are some pluses and minuses, the pluses, besides what I mentioned above. 1. Considerable versatility, couple of additional sets of imputs for TV and aux (can hook up my iPod to it). 2. Sound options, for VCD and CD, which are stereo, simulated Dolby is available utilizing all the speaker outputs, rather than just the sub and front pair, in stereo mode. 3. Shuffle mode for CD's. I really enjoy this feature, but it will only do this per disk, not shuffle through the disks to play selected songs. Not a big thing, but it is my first experience with finding shuffle feature on 5 disk DVD/CD. 4. Remote is laid out quite well and is readable, something that I have had difficulty with on others. 5. Change disks while one is playing, however, you cannot get to all of them when you do this, unless you are Houdini. 6. Sub-woofer is awesome for bass and I love BASS!! Negatives: (minor for most people and the reasons I did not give 5 *'s) 1. Speaker wire is not long enough for rear speakers, but this is not uncommon from other home theatres that I have helped to set up or set up on my own. 2. External FM antenna is a wire only, although it does work, it looks cheap and cannot hook up to coaxial cable to utilize other hook up options. 3. No preset mixer, but tonal quality (bass and treble) is available, but you need to go through a bunch of changes to reach this menu and video has to present to see what your doing, unless you can remember the steps. My mind is not a steel trap. All in all, this is better and more than expected, in output, abilities, overall appearance, functionality, remote and this guy rocks! Heck, I was thinking of putting this one in my living room instead, but thought better of it. Engineered very well and well thought out. Think I am pleased, you are exactly right, if you said yes! I would heartily recommend this unit to those thinking of diving into the home theatre pool.
