The Magnesium Factor - Most important health book ever!!!!!,
By George Eby "http://coldcure.com (cure for com... (Austin, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Magnesium Factor (Paperback)
Drs. Seelig and Rosanoff have pinpointed THE LETHAL FLAW in American nutrition and medicine, that being chronic, culturally-induced magnesium deficiency. Magnesium deficiency/calcium excess causes 90% of all lethal heart attacks, and causes more illness than anyone can imagine. The reader MUST see pages 5 and 17 of their book. Page 5 shows that heart attack deaths in 1900 were essentially zero, but by 2,000 the incidence had climbed to about 700,000 per year due to a decline over the same time in magnesium dietary intake. Lethal heart attacks are caused by low magnesium. Page 17 shows that nations with low magnesium/high calcium diets (U.S. Finland, Netherlands) have a lethal heart attack rate 20 times higher than nations with high magnesium/low calcium diets (Japan). Drs. Seelig & Rosenoff show by review of many peer-reviewed medical journal articles that nearly all of the serious/lethal heart conditions such as arrhythmias, tachycardia, EKG & ECG abnormalities, arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, angina, heart attacks (including sudden death heart attacks), high bad cholesterol, blood clots, mitral valve prolapes, type II diabetes, inability to handle "stress" are really nothing more than SYMPTOMS of severe magnesium deficiency. Many other "diseases" such as constipation, kidney stones, menstrual cramps, pre-eclampsia, ecalampsia, PMS, spontaneous abortion, miscarriage, carbohydrate intolerance, ravenous appetite, obesity, low serum calcium and potassium (not correctable with supplements), elevated serum phosphorus, vitamin D resistance, muscle cramps, musle soreness, backaches, neck pain, headaches, TMJ, muscle tension and twitches, convulsions, migrane headaches, hearing loss, ringing in ears, hyperactivity, stress disorders, ADHD in children, insomnia, numbness, tingling, agoraphobia, anxiety, depression, suicidal depression, irritability, panic attacks, all - each and every one - are SYMPTOMS of low magnesium. The diseases that are treatable, curable and preventable with magnesium supplementation represent the bulk of "diseases" currently treated with expensive pharmaceutical drugs and hospital treatments. If all Americans supplemented their diets with sufficient magnesium (estimates vary from 150 to 500 mg magnesium supplemental) per day, they believe would result a great reduction in the need for physican and hospital services nation-wide. The main source of magnesium in the American diet 100 years ago when there was much magnesium in our food was wheat, dark green leafy vegetables and nuts. Due to refining wheat, there is little magnesium remaining and people tend to avoid nuts due to their oil content. Most people do not eat enough vegetables. Conseqently, we have a serious culturally-induced magnesium deficiency that adversely affects all of our lives on a daily baises, and costs this country about 10% of its gross domestic product in un-necessary health costs.

A 'must read' for panic attack and migraine sufferers,
By
This review is from: The Magnesium Factor (Paperback)
I would give it 10 stars if I could! It is truly unfortunate that such a simple solution to so many health problems is discounted by medical professionals, and therefore virtually unknown to the general public.
For nearly twenty years I suffered with migraines. I tried many prescription medications, but none of them worked and they all produced unacceptable side effects. Around 1998 (at 34 years old), my blood pressure was becoming elevated, my average resting heart rate was 95-100 bpm. My migraines were more frequent and severe, and I had started having frequent chest pains, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and overwhelming fatigue. I would go to the doctor's only to be told that they could not find anything wrong. Then, in May 2000, my blood pressure was extremely low and my heart was beating so fast until it began to spasm rather than beat. I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and I spent nearly a week in the hospital undergoing testing. When I left the hospital, I was hunched over with barely enough strength to walk, and had no real answers as to what had happened to me. A week or two later I was back in the hospital with the same symptoms. After that, it seemed as if everything was triggering panic attacks--sugary and starchy foods, certain types of exercise, viral infections, migraines, excessive heat, and, of course, everyday stressors. Finally, I decided that "anxiety" was no longer an acceptable answer for what I was experiencing. I saw a psychologist who told me that many people who get panic attacks also have a condition called Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP). I read many books and articles about MVP even though I was never diagnosed with it. My physician told me, "there is no peer-reviewed medical literature to support an MVP/panic attack connection, and that the problem was `from the neck up, not from the neck down.'" He then said that the only thing he could do for me was to prescribe medication (antidepressants such as SSRIs) and recommend a psychologist (which I had already done). Although I was gradually learning how to take care of myself to prevent the panicky feelings, the Magnesium Factor was the turning point for me which helped me to feel whole again. It provided guidelines on finding the right dosage for me; it directed me to online resources I could use to find foods that are high in magnesium. It really helped me to understand why my body so desperately needs magnesium, and why it's so difficult to test for and diagnose. Within about a week of starting magnesium supplementation, eating foods high in magnesium, and following other recommendations in the book, my average resting heart rate dropped approximately 30 points to 70 bpm! I thought, "Wow, this is incredible!" I have been taking magnesium for about 4 months, and now at age 40 I am once again able to do healthy vigorous exercise. I no longer get jittery feelings of "anxiety", heart palpitations, or panic attacks, and I have had only one migraine during the past four months. THANK YOU to Drs. Seelig and Rosanoff for taking their time and energy to produce this very important book. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE continue your efforts to bring this problem (and solution) to the attention of the public and the medical community.

I suffer from PVC's or heart palpitations and ordered this book because I read many postings online by people who have been helped by taking magnesium supplements. I found this book to be of enormous value because I always just assumed that since I ate well I really didn't need supplements and because my magesium levels from my blood tests were normal it was not an issue with me. After reading this book I began taking magnesium supplements daily and perhaps it is too soon to tell or coincidental but I have had no palpitations since taking it. Anyone who has high blood pressure, high cholesteral, migraines, heart disease or any kind of heart rhythm disturbance has to read this book!

Magnesium is one of the most important nutrients for human health, yet it may be the most overlooked -- despite the fact that the majority of Americans suffer from magnesium deficiency. As Dr. Mildred Seelig -- probably the world's leading expert on the role of magnesium in human health -- points out in this invaluable book magnesium deficiency is a major cause of both heart disease and diabetes as well as a significant number of other common ailments. If you are one of the majority of Americans who suffer from magnesium deficiency you undoubtedly suffer from numerous unpleasant symptoms and are at serious risk of dying prematurely. Yet you can alleviate these symptoms and remove this risk simply by taking supplemental magnesium as recommended by Dr. Seelig. As a research chemist, I beg you to get this book and follow Dr. Seelig's advice. Your health, and even your life, may be at stake if you don't. This is one of the most important books currently available. I wish that everyone, including every physician, would read it and heed it's advice.

When I found I was suffering from many of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency, I looked on Amazon and found two very highly rated books - "The Magnesium Factor" and "The Magnesium Miracle". Unable to decide between the two, I ordered them both.
Both books are great resources on magnesium but there are some very important differences between them: "The Magnesium Factor" spends a lot of time discussing the results and debating the conclusions of magnesium research. It also goes into great detail about the biochemical processes that are involved in various magnesium-dependent reactions in the body. While this is important data, it may be overkill for the average reader. In my opinion, this book would be better suited to health professionals or those with scientific backgrounds who need and/or want more detailed information. "The Magnesium Miracle" by Carolyn Dean provides the pertinent research and biochemical information in a concise and easily readable format that would likely be more accessible to the layperson. This is the book I would recommend to family and friends.

Frozen Shoulder Thaws with Magnesium,

Ditto what George Eby and the other reviewers said. And now my experience with magnesium.
When I researched to find help for rapid heartbeat and the profuse sweating and weakness that accompanied it, I found magnesium. Still skeptical (having read all the warnings of overdose this, that, etc.), but willing to try anything, I found rapid relief in less than an hour. And continued to experience increased strength in my legs and body overall the remainder of the day and the days following. Surprised, I noticed the next week that my frozen shoulder thawed. I'd been so busy feeling good versus being unable to do more than walk slowly around my home or just sit, that I hadn't even noticed until I reached for something that was over my head without giving it a thought...when reaching the back of my neck to wash my hair with my left arm (I'm right-handed) was all I had been able to manage for six months previously. That shoulder and arm now needed to be stretched and strengthened after being locked up for so long, but normal activities of the day took care of that in good time. That was January 2002. I've continued to discover all the ways that magnesium works in the body. I can sleep through the night without getting up to use the bathroom. I don't frequent the bathroom during the day, even keeping my water intake high. I no longer leak when I sneeze or cough. Magnesium keeps me free of edema, and will release excess water for a few hours after waking...notoriously if I travel somewhere. I used to be puffy and tight, and stiff especially in the feet. What some people like to label plantar facsiitis. No more. I came to realize how unwell I had been for decades. I am feeling better now at age 51 than at age 30 and even childhood. Never as much energy as the other kids, or even my own siblings. As you read this book you will learn that sugar and refined grain products leach magnesium out of the body. You can learn to live without those non-nutrient edibles. Then you won't be needing so much magnesium to just get even, you can keep it steady. And you'll discover what other symptoms those two non-foods create. See 'Sugar Blues' by William Dufty. Read 'Three Minute Therapy' by Michael Edelstein to help you get real with what you put in your mouth...and anything else in your life that you unwittingly allow to give you grief. Oh, I've even used warm magnesium sulfate baths (Epsom Salts) to revive abandoned barn kittens from coma after unexplained seizure. Get your life back. Read The Magnesium Factor. And then get some Magnesium Taurate here at Amazon from the Vitamin Shoppe.

Incredible!!!,
By V (Austria) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Magnesium Factor (Paperback)
I had "burn out" more than a year ago. The symptoms were similar to panic disorder and agoraphobia. My doctor believed that antidepressant, tranquilizers, beta blockers, sport and time are good enough treatment. The situation did improve with that, but very very slowly.
After about six months I was able to quit REGULAR tranquilizer usage, with the help of beta blockers. After that I have been able to reduce somewhat the beta blocker usage, but I still needed to use it several times per week. And I was not able to quit using the antidepressants. My trials for reducing it led always to very wild and scary heartbeats. Then something happened. I found this book and it changed my life immediately!!! I have not needed the beta blockers after the very same day I started to take magnesium&kalium supplement. It really makes my heart run smoothly, I don't feel it beating anymore in a strange way for example when trying to sleep! And my dizziness is gone. And the situation seems to get better and better all the time! I just reduced the antidepressant usage a couple of days ago and I'm very confident that now I can slowly quit using it! I have been using quite huge amounts of magnesium now in the beginning. The last four days I have taken 1200 mg per day, and I'm feeling just great! Even the last 200 mg or so in the evening makes me feel better. But I suppose I have to reduce the dosage soon. It was this book that helped me to find out that my body was suffering from lack of magnesium! It is nice to know that after all there is nothing wrong with my head :-)

MagOx Saved My Life,
By
This review is from: The Magnesium Factor (Paperback)
I had pvc's and pac's for 14 years. Was told by a group of doctors at one of the best hospitals on the east coast that I might have 6 months left. They gave me all the usual heart meds, stomach meds, and over 100 ekg's, heart monitors, halter monitors, a recorder I pressed to my chest...etc. All of which would only record sporadic painful arrythmia's
I tried Magnesium, Centrum, Vitamin C, Accupuncture (helped more than anything else), meditation, and even a psychologist. If I heard the word "psychosamatic" or "in my head" one more time... I started MagOx in the fall of 2005 and 48 hours later my symptoms went from over 4000 (not a typo, yes, somtimes 4000) pvc's a day to 2 or 3 a week. I can exercise again and no longer have 90% of my chest pain. I don't know about all the other symptoms, but if my story can help just one other person (I suffered horrendously for years) than I highly recommend just trying this supplement. It can't hurt. I take 400mg a day, which is about the same as what you receive in 2 cups of Broccoli or such. Oddly, I haven't had the flu since I started it now that I think about it. I have no affiliations with this book or the writer or any medical agency. I sell Servers and network setups in Washington D.C. Chad Laibly Annandale, VA

Magnesium for life,

This book is enlighting when you talk about the heart. It offers a really simple and cost effective way to maintain and manage certain aspects of your heart. You can basically add magnesium into your diet and what your body doesn't use will be elminated naturally into your urine.
I am going to go over the chapters that I considered informative to me. Fat, Cholesterol & Magnesium There is a guide on how to correct your magnesium levels based on certain criterias. You will need to know your current HDL/LDL status before you can be assisted with the guide. Magnesium, Stess, & the Type A The explantory reason for how stress depletes the body of magnesium is an eye popper. Do you need more magnesium? Provides testing locations with an appendix for the self testers. I considered the test list to be exhaustive with some of the symptoms similiar to other familiar diseases and conditions. Hence, it is probably better to see a doctor to have your mineral levels checked. Appendix A Presents a questionaire that I think offers an insight on what your magnesium levels needs may be without going to a doctor. Additionally, this book included a great simple BMI calculation to help you measure the fat content of your body.

This is a great book. I have been taking a Magnesium based tablet for a few years.
I went from a Migraine a week to one every other month. My Doctor sent me to a health food store "Whole Foods" where I am able to get them. I still take highblood pressure meds but I feel better than I have in years. If you would like to know the name of the tablet it's MIGRALIEF by Quantum. I would still recommend seeing a neurologist and a good one makes all the difference in the world. |
