This review is from: Magnetic Poetry Magnetic Poetry Stand with Magnetic Words (Toy)
I totally purchased this out of genuine curiosity. I thought it might generate a laugh or too, and that it might be fun just to simply poke around with some word play, especially when I had to be at home or had to get my mind off the daily grind. Going beyond my initial expectations, the product pleasantly surprised me with its personality and with its potential for real language exercises, for both entertainment and for the classroom.Writing haiku is a personal meditation for me, and this product actually charges my brainstorming and my observations by challenging me to create with the original word box I had been given. It does tend to get a bit addictive when you try to outdo each expression you make! LOL :) More fun can be had when other people join you and / or you add on words from other word packs! How magnetic poetry might help young readers and students is in illustrating the impact of the right word choice and the wrong word choice in a phrase or sentence. Also, the word tiles could be used to teach basic parts of speech and / or sentence patterns. It could also be effective in teaching alphabetical order, sensory details, questioning, clustering, inference, main idea, fact, opinion, study mnemonic, connotation, and denotation. The word pack contains over 240 word tiles, and I did a rough / quick estimate as to the diversity / flexibility of those items. The included word pack falls approximately in the following percentages---I say approximately because quite a few words can, depending on usages and suffixes, can act as different parts of speech. [This aspect allows for more creativity in expression, and this was one of the features that surprised me when I realized it.] Small Example: love (word tile) --My love is great. (noun) I love you. (verb) The lovely flowers...(adjective). Pronouns: 10% / Nouns: 28% / Adverbs: 6% / Conjunctions: 4% / Prepositions: 12% / Verbs: 25% / Adjectives: 10% / Miscellaneous pieces, suffixes, etc.: 4% The "poetry stand" is actually very helpful as you build your word works. The user can design word patterns and even shapes by various placements of word tiles You can slide words around for the greatest and / or silliest effect. It's rather like an artist's easel. Assembly is as easy as sliding the stand into the base. Nothing to glue or clip or snap. // However, you do not have to use the stand. I suppose some folks use their own refrigerators to display poems; the publishers even have a little comment about that on the products box: "Better Poetry Through Refrigeration!" The included "A Guide to Magnetic Poetry" booklet offers some fun ideas to explore. The companion website, www.magneticpoetry.com, is worth exploring too. The potential for expanding this product is vast because Amazon and the company offer more word tile packs on a variety of topics. The more words you have at your finger tips, the more you can do! This version of Magnetic Poetry could be therapeutic for people who are confined to beds or chair or anywhere due to health concerns. It offers the chance to use one's mind and to escape into a lively world of words and ideas. I would also recommend it for classrooms, offices, and workplace lounges / break-rooms--anywhere a light-hearted diversion is needed. Writers of fiction and song might enjoy playing with the words too! It definitely sparks creativity and imagination...for adults and children. NOTE: this product contains small parts (word tiles) so it is NOT suitable for children under say about six years old or anyone who would likely try to put the tiles in his / her mouth. I would say even six to nine year olds, depending on the child and his / her maturity, would need some supervision / guidance with the product. Also, the product stand is sturdy enough for what it is intended for; however, it would be quite fragile in the hands of a small child who plays roughly with toys, etc.

Being a person with little inspiration, this is a savior. And its helpful knowing there's a bunch of magnetic kits out there. I think it is good for writing poetry, but due to limit of words available (in this kit) I have trouble writing poetry to the fullest. Not only that, the board scratches easily and its sort of annoying to have to root for the right words. Beside that, I think this is a great deal for 20 bucks. Good for budding poets.

Writer Wellness: A Writer's Path to Health and Creativity Magnetic poetry is just a fun and inspiration tool. This magnetic board with stand is convenient and doesn't take up too much space on a desk or table top. There is a handy tray that also acts as the stand for the board and finding words is easy when you want to change the message.
