Great toy, okay value,
By
This review is from: Magnetix 150 Count - Primary Colors (Toy)
I bought my 4 year old son the 70 pc set and he absolutely loves it. The only thing is that there is not enough pieces in it for the price. I was shocked when I opened the box. The box was pretty small anyway and when I opened it, it was mostly styrofoam. The pieces are tiny and would probably be easily lost except for the fact that a) they are magnetic and stick together and b)my son thinks they are the coolest toys in the world and he fanatically keeps up with them. (That was a first for him also, he NEVER likes to put toys away, much less voluntarily.) He loves legos but he thinks these are even better. If your child loves to build things with blocks or legos he will probably like this toy, just don't be surprised when you open the box and see what 70 or 150 count really looks like.

These are great, and watch out for imitations!,

The thing that amazes me about Magnetix is the strength of the magnets. My 3 year old loves playing with them, and is learning basic physics regarding opposite poles of magnetism attracting each other, and same poles opposing each other. I wish the price was lower though. I made the mistake of buying a "magnetic construction set" that was not Magnetix brand, and it turned out to be a chinese imitation and the magnets were just 20% the strength of the Magnetix brand, so they hardly stuck together and you couldn't build tall structures. So if you and your child are into this concept, stick with the recognized name brands and watch out for the cheap imports!

Expensive, but good,

On the costly side, definitely. More balls ( connectors ) than
rods - don't be fooled by the "150" count. That said, provides countless hours of fun for the young and young at heart. It's great to the see the kids come up with ideas -- that alone is worth the price. It's nice to watch kids sit together and construct something. A word of warning ! Some of the magents pop off the rods -- shoddy construction for something you pay so much for. Addictive - you may find yourself buying a couple more sets to build a larger structure !

Much Better than Watching Telly,

I bought my grandson this for his birthday. He is just four years old and took to it like a duck to water. It is amazing the shapes that can be achieved with this set, either geometric or abstract. Little minds can see all sorts of things in a shape. that's a car granddad, that's a space ship and so on and so on. The pieces are quite small so if there is a baby brother or sister in the house be careful. Also keep the magnetised pieces well away from the old heart pacemaker. This warning is sensibly given on the box.
For anyone who wants their child or grandchild to have something a little more creative and makes them use their minds and hands, I recommend this as the ideal toy.

I just can't say enough good things about this toy,

I just love magnetix as does my 7 year old. This toy promotes creativity, teaches about science (magnetic laws), and is just plain fun. My son and I play with these for hours. You can build them as high as legos but they also don't hurt as much when you step on them. The pieces are small so magnetix are definately not for kids under 3 and possibly even 4. They are absolutely worth the money.

After reading the reviews I invested in the BIG box of 285 pieces thinking then we would have plenty, and was still shocked as most people said at how few that really was. Granted there are plenty for the whole family, but I thought it would be more.
That said, we love them. I think I love them as much as my kids. I usually have to force myself to sit down and play with my kids, but these I love. We got these for my 5 year old, but even my 3 year old loves them. Obviously what they can build varies, but they are equally enthralled by them. My three year old thinks it is hilarious how some won't stick and others "jump" together. I have to say despite the amount we've already paid, I am going to have to get more, they are seriously addicting and fun. My five year old has had some problems with fine motor skills. He gets very frustrated doing puzzles if he can't get it right. That is why I decided to get these, to help with fine motor skills. He is having so much fun, he doesn't know that he is learning.

Geomag,
This review is from: Magnetix 150 Count - Primary Colors (Toy)
I also found the ToyMagnets website. However they do not carry Magnetix; they carry Geomag. After doing some research I found that these actually seem to be of better quality than the Magnetix. The prices on ToyMagnets.com were excellent and they had stock in all of their items (shipping was free if you spent $75). I'm actually glad that ToysRUs never had the Magnetix 250 piece set. I would have never found Geomags than!!! Truly an excellent set! I highly reccomend checking ToyMagnets.com out!

A total hit in our house. All the kids though these were so cool and so did the parents and aunts / uncles. My only complaint is you can never have enough. You just want to keep building and building.

Very high quality product,

Gave the 150-piece set to my two daughters, ages 4 and 6. This one is fun for the whole family. 150 pieces seems like a lot but I can see us continually adding to our collection, much in the same way that we continually add legos. The product seems to be of a high quality as the magnets are very powerful (too powerful actually, as they adhere so well). In any case, there's probably a lot for a kid to learn with this type of toy -- cooperation with others, thinking in 3 dimensions, how to build a stable object, etc. In any case, it's just plain fun!
