This review is from: MAGNETIX EXTREME FLYING SAUCER (Toy)
A very pretty set, and well-packaged like all of this line. As a basic building set, it's an OK value - better if it's on sale - for the pieces received. However, the quality control of the set contents in general leaves something to be desired.
Instructions packaged with the set for building the featured "flying saucer" model are unclear, missing a few key diagrams - and absolutely not adequate for an 8-year-old to whom the set was given. A revised version downloaded from the Rose Art Magnetix forums helped somewhat; however, we found that supplied mix of pieces was incorrect (no "large" triangles; flexors too long and wrong color). There are also problems with the "interlock" of some pieces - they don't always fit completely - but this can be worked around when building the saucer.
A phone call to Rose Art was answered promptly, and a replacement set of parts and instructions was promised to rectify some of the set's issues. (Rose Art has delivered replacement parts when promised to us in the past.)
One other minor issue: the "lights" supplied with the set are very small - fingertip size, smaller than a dime - and definitely should be kept away from smaller kids. They also may prove difficult for some builders - kids and adults - to use, as they turn on/off with a twisting motion (like some flashlights) and are a bit hard to manipulate in this way.
Once the model is build, it's reasonably sturdy, but don't make sudden moves with it, as it will tend to shift and fold upon itself if mishandled.
Overall: In general, I like the Magnetix sets; they are colorful and easy to build with. However, if you're in love with the flying saucer model pictured, you might be disappointed with this set's problems.

Very Frustrating...
Instructions were absolutely terrible & incomplete.
Set did not even come with the pieces required to build the saucer.
Save yourself some grief and look for something else!
