4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly terrific toy
My son (then 3) got this set for Christmas from a friend. I was skeptical. Despite the age range on the box, I thought it was a toy too old to appeal to a small child, and I worried he'd lose the pieces to easily and then he'd be frustrated and annoyed. I'm happy to say I was wrong on both counts.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerous to all ages of children
How many of you have older kids that chew on pen caps or pencils? At a routine pre-op visit to the hospital, we met a 10-year-old who had, in this manner, swallowed one of the plastic pieces whole. The plastic dissolved in his digestive system, leaving the two magnets free. They perforated his intestine, and he's now on his 5th day of hospitalization.

He loves Magnetix. I wouldn't hesitate to say it's his most played with Christmas gift, and he got many nice building block sets. And the imagination it fosters! He makes snakes, he makes rivers, he makes volcanos, he makes cranes - he loves it. And the pieces really don't get lost. They seem to just stick together in a clump. I am very happy to see him so interested in this toy, when I truly thought it was too old for him. He even took it to school for show-and-tell, and I got two calls from other mothers wanting to know more about it.

I highly recommend this toy, even for 3 year olds! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish it came with a case or container of some kind to keep them in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy for my 4 (now 5) year old, November 13, 2005
This review is from: Magnetix 35 Count, Primary Colors (Toy)
We got my son this set last Christmas when he was 4 y.o. and he liked it so much that we got him the larger 225 piece set for his last birthday.

He will play with it for hours! He has built different shapes, a boat, a castle, and skyscraper, a large tent... he is always coming up with new creations.

The only downfalls:

1. His little sister loves it, too but she is only 15 months and too young for it.

2. We had a couple of the magnets pull out and my husband just superglued them back in.

My son loves his Legos but actually plays with this more and after almost 1 year it is still his favorite toy.

I would recommend this for a child that is 3- 5 instead of an older child as recommended by the manufacturer's suggested age. I think an older child would get tired of it quickly.

These are a very cool magnetic toy. You can make towers and make rods with them. I like them very much. I want to get more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and educational toy, July 20, 2006

My son loves these magnetix and plays with them all of the time. They are easy to travel with and very educational as they truly bring out the child's imagination. I would recommend this for boys and girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Five Year Old Loves This Toy!, November 27, 2005
This review is from: Magnetix 35 Count, Primary Colors (Toy)
The age recommendation for this toy says 8-12 years, but my five year old just loved it. 35 pieces isn't enough to do much, but he still had fun lining the pieces up into patterns and making small things. HUGE WARNING: This is not a good toy if you have a baby in the house! The metal balls are perfect choking size and I've had to put the entire set away until the baby is older.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Toy, Imagine and Build, March 31, 2006
This review is from: Magnetix 35 Count, Primary Colors (Toy)
Lot of bad press on this toy recently. Balls are not the magnets. The rods have small but powerful magnetics in the ends. The magnets are fairly secure in their plastic housing unless your kid (or pet) decides to take plier like teeth and start chewing away at them. But in this case you should take some responsibilty for allowing a child to stick something other than food in their mouth. I can only wonder what else these kids are playing with unsupervised? Rocks covered in coliform, cigarette butts from ashstrays, mommies personal hygene items? If your kids are not old enough for unsurpervised play then watch them and let us have decent toys to spur our imagination.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy plenty, April 22, 2004

These are great, but buy plenty. I only got a medium set and we can't build anything really cool with them except for shapes. They're incredibly durable, the magnets really hold together. You need about 500 pieces, I think. Not good for very young kids, as they can be swallowed and the balls will roll away. Lots of fun. Good for stressed out adults. A little like the mini zen gardens for relaxation. People start out thinking they'll just mess with these things for a couple minutes and end up spending half an hour or more sticking them together into some weird thing and grinning about their accomplishments. Turns adults into kiddies again.

We just bought these today for our son, about to turn 3 years old. We all played with them all night, and my husband and I played with them after our son went to bed. They're wonderful toys, very educational, and we're headed out to pick up some more next week.

The only thing I recommend is to buy a large set, as you will get bored if you only get a 20 pc box (spring for the 70 pc set)...and be aware of the choking hazard. Don't buy them for your kids if they're still putting toys in their mouths. watch them closely.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Magnetix 35 Count, Primary Colors (Toy)
I really liked this toy when I first got it. It's a great toy but after a while they ended up at the bottom of mine and my brothers toy box. I guess maybe because were older, it sounds sutible for younger kids. But when I bored I do play with it.

I first got hooked on the commercial for Super Mag which is another brand similar to Magnetixs. I got stuck on the catchy tune from the Super Mag commercial and over the 4th of July weekend I was playing Legos with my neice and when I was a kid I found Legos a lot of fun but now that I'm older they weren't as much of a thrill. I saw a box of the 35 piece Magnetixs on Sale at a local store so I decided to try them out. I was a little disappointed that I wasn't able to make a bunch of things but the box claims you can make 100 designs. The next day I went out and bought two 70 piece boxs of Magnetixs and it's still not enough to make anything cool. But like the previous review writers it does make time fly so fast. I probably spent about 3-4 hrs. sticking and clicking pieces together. In my opinion they should give you more rods and less metal balls bcuz I run out of the sticks more than I do with the metals ball or better yet create a box with like 300 pieces or something. The price is a little high for these 20-35-70 piece boxes if you ask me but in a way it's sort of worth it even though you don't have too many pieces to play with.
