5.0 out of 5 stars My son didn't even look at cars after he opened this toy!
I was extremely surprised that my son put down cars - his true passion- to play with this! It keeps him busy doing different things for a long time. Great for travelling also. Highly recommend this, don't just go by the age in the box, my 4 year old has a lot of uses for these pieces... Good for girls too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective toy - dangerous!
We bought a similar toy two years ago for our 5-year old son (Magnetix Translucent Curves with the word "Magnetix" stamped on each link). We also have other children in the home. At this time three of the little magnets have come out. It seems to happen most when we put the curves end to end and the power of one magnet pulled another magnet out from its pocket in...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It!, September 27, 2005
This review is from: Magnetix 30 Count Curves, Primary Colors (Toy)
My 14 year old recommended these for her brothers 3rd birthday. They were a HIT! Not only do the kids love them but so do the adults! Grandpa sneaks them out after the kids go to bed (he is an engineer!). These keep my 3 & 4 year old busy for long amounts of time. They love to see how many they can get to stick together. In fact, we have asked for more for Christmas!

We bought a similar toy two years ago for our 5-year old son (Magnetix Translucent Curves with the word "Magnetix" stamped on each link). We also have other children in the home. At this time three of the little magnets have come out. It seems to happen most when we put the curves end to end and the power of one magnet pulled another magnet out from its pocket in another curved piece. Basically, there is nothing holding the magnets in! There is no "lip" and there is no adhesive on each end of the curved piece. The magnets are shaped like small cylinders. I am not talking about the larger balls which are just metal and are not magnets.

And yes, these magnets have awesome power! I put one of the little guys on my finger and another one attracted right through it - from the other side of my finger. Amazing yet scary.

In Washington state recently one toddler died and another pre-schooler almost died - both swallowed multiple magnets from building toys. The key here is "multiple". With more than one magnet, the internal organs got choked off before the mom even realized the kid was sick. The toddler's older brother had received a "Magnetix Xtreme Combo" toy two weeks earlier. Here is the link with a video: http://komo1000news.com/stories/42442.htm. Parents, I think we should all beware of any toys with small magnets. If you have a baby or toddler in the home, think about it. Is the added excitement of a "cool toy" worth risking your child's health? From reading the feedback posted out there over the years, it seems like some manufacturers use design and product materials that are poor quality and their magnets fall out a lot. The magnets are so powerful that they are destroying the intestines of children, resulting in a painful death. FINALLY, a recall is underway, thanks to KOMO TV in Seattle.
