5.0 out of 5 stars great toy
We got this on sale at ToysRUs and weren't sure what the base was supposed to do except hold the magnets. My son has some of the magnetix already so this was just going to be a case to hold them.
Imagine my surprise when I looked up the case and found that the base flipped over and became a building base and the strange arm things were to suspend your creation...

2.0 out of 5 stars I wanted it to be a hit
I really thought my then 6 year old would like this. He's 7 years old now and this toy has been sitting in plain view in our great room in nearly new condition. I also have a 4 year old daughter who hasn't taken an interest, either. It looks like it would be fun. Who doesn't like magnets? My sons have been playing with this and love it!
I think that it is not made for a 6 year old, even though a 6 year old might like the other magnetix toys (like the t-rex one)
If my child abused the toy it wouldn't just sit out waiting for him to play with it, it would go away.
A creative child will love this toy.

I bought this for my 5 year old daughter and we have had hours of fun building and creating with it. I read the other review and I found it funny that the mom was disappointed with the toy because her kid didn't play with it. I don't think it's the toy's fault! This toy can provide hours of fun, for a child who is creative and focused. If you're looking for a toy to entertain and addict your child buy him a video game! If your kids start throwing the marble balls at each other reprimand your kids, it's not the toy's fault.

I really thought my then 6 year old would like this. He's 7 years old now and this toy has been sitting in plain view in our great room in nearly new condition. I also have a 4 year old daughter who hasn't taken an interest, either. It looks like it would be fun. Who doesn't like magnets? My son plays with the magnets in my kitchen all the time, but he has no interest in this toy. Occasionally, when we have kids in my house who seem bored, I'll encourage my son to bring this out and the boys usually get into it. I'm not sure if it's because they're bored or they actually like it.

Magnetix has lots of metal balls and connectors that connect via magnetic force. Turn the bag over and it can be used as a base to hold the some vertical bars to hang the connectors and help build creations. It would be nice if the bag unzipped or somehow detached from the base. If you can imagine a bag with a hard bottom that you invert, the soft part of the bag is somewhat in the way and you have to tuck it in to keep the base flat on the ground.

Sometimes, the kids will end up throwing the balls, which are hard and heavy and could cause damage, so I have to put it away. There are some little lights for the connectors that malfunctioned right out of the box. It didn't matter, because my son didn't care for it anyway.

I want my kids to like this toy because it looks like it should be fun. Besides, it's quite pricey, but alas, it's a no go; and really, the value in a toy is its fun factor and if kids won't play with it, it's not a good toy.
