5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite albums
Simply put this is one of my favorite albums. To the reviewer who left a stark negative review saying, "avoid unless you're a girl with your first boyfriend ...", well I'm not that. I'm a male in my mid/late 20s. The other reviewer who positively described his music as "honest" is right on point. Jason is one of those people who is an all around artist... in an age of...

Simply put this is one of my favorite albums. To the reviewer who left a stark negative review saying, "avoid unless you're a girl with your first boyfriend ...", well I'm not that. I'm a male in my mid/late 20s. The other reviewer who positively described his music as "honest" is right on point. Jason is one of those people who is an all around artist... in an age of cookie-cutter teen pop stars.

He is an extremely talented song writer, and an extremely talented guitarist. His mellow voice that soothes the easy-tracks and lends energy when and where the upbeat tracks needs it - make for a great album from start to finish. Its laid back ("Reaching"), its also high energy ("Gasoline"), upbeat ("Never Find Again"), its acoustic, its heartfelt ("You in a Song").

As a real fan I was concerned that Jason's talent would be inhibited by a major record label, instead it was refined. Take a listen for yourself. If you like music to relax to, to drive to, to sing-along to ... this is it.

I saw him in concert with Colbie Caillat a couple of years ago and was blown away by his talent. I then bought his cd and fell in love with it and still listen to it every week. Can't help but feel good when it's on....and to think he wrote all these songs himself makes me love them more. If you like James Taylor music you will LOVE Jason Reeves.

4.0 out of 5 stars A MALE COLBIE CAILLAT, May 7, 2009
This review is from: Magnificent Adventures of Heartache & Other Frightening Tales (Audio CD)
This is a decent album with the singer-songwriter vibe that I love. It's a bit poppier than most of the acoustic artists out there, reminding me of a male Colbie Caillat. LOVE "New Hampshire." Not my go-to CD, but definitely a great one for my collection: Worth every dollar.

I started listening to Jason Reeves music because I am a big Colbie Calliat fan and the songs they have done together are brilliant. So I bought his CD as well...and I have to say I cannot complain one bit. He's an amazing song writer and singer. If you've ever been dumped or felt personal loss....you will get his music. I love it!

Jason Reeves is a songwriter who first received critical acclaim as the songwriting partner of Colbie Caillat. Having co-wrote the songs that appeared on her debut, Reeves took the remainder of songs that didn't make it and placed them on his EP `Hearts Are Magnets.' After receiving further notoriety on his debut, `Magnificent Adventures of Heartache' he earned a deal with Warner Bros. in 2008. Reeves is a lovelorn soul and his songs are reflective on relationships, breakups and reunions.

When I first heard this album, I thought it sounded like a Josh Rouse collection recorded around the time of `Dressed Up Like Nebraska,' his debut. Reeves' vocals could be a dead ringer for Rouse and the subject matter is fairly similar. While Rouse often stays morose and somewhat distant, Jason Reeves tempers his melancholy streak with slightly upbeat songs. Clearly some girl has broken this guy's heart, but he's moving on. Jason Reeves also has a knack for writing decent pop melodies but it seems that the album could have used a better editor, there is a lot of sameness to some of the songs with many being midtempo rockers. Standout track include, "Happy Accident," "You In A Song," "Gasoline," and "Hearts Are Magnets."

Jason Reeves is a songwriter to watch and it will be interesting to see what direction his career takes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Adventures of Heartache, March 7, 2011
This review is from: Magnificent Adventures of Heartache & Other Frightening Tales (Audio CD)
I just discovered his music 2 days ago and I am blown away. "The Magnificent Adventures of Heartache & Other Frightening Tales" is one of the best conceptual albums I heard in years. When I listen to this album, I can feel the atmosphere of each song. Reeve's music is the genre I most enjoy - it's happy, it's sad, it's angry, it's depressing, and it's inspiring. As the album title suggests, the songs are about going through a relationship and the joy and the pain that come with it. I am amazed by how each song flows so well with the next, and this album tells a story that is a treat for the ears.

The album starts with the initial stage of finding a relationship, that somebody is out there waiting for us and we just hope that we will find them soon ("Someone Somewhere"). Then, one day, we actually do meet that person. ("Happy Accident"). After meeting that person, we all wonder if it will actually turn into something more, and all we think about is that person ("You in a Song"). Finally, somebody will have to make the first move because we don't want the chance to go to waste ("Reaching"). At this point, that person is our everything and we think we will be nothing without him/her ("Pretty Eyes"). If it all goes well, the honeymoon stage of the relationship is next ("Entwined", "Sunbeam Lights"). However, we will always have our doubts in whether the relationship is going right or wrong, but we will try our hardest to make things right ("Never Again"). And here comes the heartache - That person leaves you for a selfish reason ("New Hampshire"). Even though the relationship is at a standstill, that person still seems to care about you but it's just not the same anymore because distance (whether physical or metaphorical) has been established ("Old Fashioned Letters"). Then, out of the blue, that person thinks we should just be friend even though we are still trying our hardest to mend the problems ("Just Friends"). Initially, we will feel cheated and angry by how that person treated us ("The Fragrant Taste of Rain", "Gasoline"). But when we think back, there's always the good memories from the relationship that make us lament and depress ("Photographs and Memories"). But we all have to move on, because the end means the beginning of something new ("The End").

And that's the story of the album. You have to listen to every song to understand the heartache of this story because Reeve's music is haunting and he sings with such feelings. The highlight for me is "Old Fashioned Letters", "Happy Accident", "Reaching", "Entwined", "Photographs and Memories", and "The End". But this whole album is great, so purchase this album, you will not be disappointed!

And added bonus, if it helps, he also co-wrote a lot of Colbie Caillat's songs, such as "Bubbly", "Realize", and my favorite, "Fearless".

I cannot get enough of Jason's music. If you enjoy the singer/songwriter genre then you too will fall for his amazing lyrics and sound. I first found out about Jason Reeves when he was featured on one of Tyrone Wells's songs and needed to know more about him. I'm so very glad I did because he has become one of my favorite artists.

Jason Reeves never disappoints. His songs are all heart, and every song is like listening to lyrics of my own personal diary. If you're a sucker for good-hearted lyrics, and accoustic sound, I recommend you get the whole CD. If you're still iffy, at least check out "Just Friends", "Photographs & Memories", and "Reaching".
