Its been a long wait for jazzy jeff's first solo album after a 15+ year career, but he delivers. The Magnificent is one of the best albums released in years. Although many of the emcees on the album are relatively unknown and underground they come through with excellent lyrics and superb rhymes. The 1st single for da love of da game is probably the best track on the album with a great vibe reminiscent of summertime. J-Live drops gems on break it down a brilliant track which finishes with several dj's cutting it up. The production on the album is first class, and the variety of the album is another feature. From rnb (rock wit u, how i do, my people) hip hop (scram, mystery man) spoken word (we live in philly) to house (in time) the magnificent delivers on all counts. The album also features plenty of jeffs perfect scratches, as paul yamz says on da ntro jeff (never claim to be the best, but easily could) Brilliant album.. stand out tracks include shake it off, for da love of da game, break it down, musik lounge, my people and we are..

5.0 out of 5 stars u serious?, November 19, 2002

This by far the best album I have copped this year. My eyes and ears are always open for new innovative projects and while this album doesn't really transcend the r&b, jazz-infused recipe that other artists have touched upon over the years, I must say that Jazzy Jeff EXCELS at producing it. "for the love of the game" must be one of the most refreshing tracks hip hop has had to offer during the last couple years, and the supporting cast that Jazz invites into this production masterpiece do not fall short (ok, that boyz to men cat could have been dropped)of my highest expectations. Also Freddie Fox comes correct with a rather more chilled out yet authoritative flow that I never knew he had, and I have been listening to him for a long time. If you love the best beats of producers like hi-tech, and jaydee, then this is a must buy. It will be heavy in your rotation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jazzy Jeff at his best!!!, September 22, 2002

This album is one of the best album's that came out this year. It's just straight up hip hop/soul/r&b flavor like its suppost to be. It's good to hear something that's not all commercial. And it was nice to hear him away from Will Smith, even though they are dope together. It was good to hear Pauly Yamz & Baby Blak, Jill Scott, J-Live, and 2 drum beats from ?uestlove of the Legendary ROOTS!!! It's just too bad that most hip hop don't sound like this. BUY THE ALBUM!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Dj jazzy jeff...one of the best kept secrets in Hip-hop/soul, September 14, 2002

This new one from Jazzy Jeff is not getting a lot of promo but it will by the time singles start droping from this. A lot of people are unaware still that he is behind Jill Scott's album and a lot of other hits that we are feeling today. He is a producer that likes to keep on the low and let the songs speak for themselves and on this one?....its nothing different. Songs like: Know your hood, A charmed Life, Love Saviour, We Are, and How do I bring true hip/hop and a message behind it. Most of the songs have a mesage behind it and has guests like Jill Scott and Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men just to name a few. Overall this was a good album and people should not sleep on this one.

Get it!

DJ Jazzy Jeff's latest Beat Generation installment "The Magnificent" emits a breath of life to a currently stagnant hip-hop culture. This album is constructed and orchestrated by Jazzy Jeff and a number of other A Touch Of Jazz producers. This album sets a tranquil, jazzy, soulful, mood in a typical b-boy fashion. This album directly captures the listener. "The Magnificent" immediately causes the listener to become interwoven with essence of the streets of Philly through a beautiful soundscape. A majority of the guests featured are all underground local artists who deserve more recognition. Standouts on the album include "For the Love of Da Game", "Scram" and "Know Your Hood". This album is a pure gem and the more you listen to it the more addictive it becomes. If you're a hip-hop, soul, or jazz aficionado, I suggest you cop this one while you still can.

5.0 out of 5 stars jazzy jeff, March 13, 2005
This review is from: The Magnificent (Audio CD)
this album came out in 2002, and i slept on it for 2 years...always saw it in the stores but never got it. then i found out it was produced under the beat generation label, which also produced classics such as "welcome 2 detroit" (jay dee) and "petestrumentals" (pete rock). so i gave it a try, and it's possibly one of the best albums i've ever heard.

jazzy jeff samples and cuts just right, adds that neo-soul feel-good sound to each one of these tracks, and the help he has on the album, from j-live, to jill scott, are on point. personal favorites include the first 3 tracks, "music lounge," "my peoples," "love savior," "mystery man," "we love in philly,"(remake of roy ayers' 'we live in brooklyn'), and "in time".

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeff is a Genius, August 30, 2003
This review is from: The Magnificent (Audio CD)
To put together an compilation like this. The first time I heard Jeff by himself was on Slum Village CD "Fantastic Vol 2" and he ripped it on that cut. So when I found out about "The Magnificent" I had to pick it up. I definently recommend this album to anyone who likes pure hip hop in its raw essence. Its definently earned its respect in the hip hop relm of underground cds. Jeff gets much props on this one.
