5.0 out of 5 stars Mago de Oz.....they blow me away
This has to be the best concert DVD ever. Every song Mago de Oz performs is done to perfection. Seeing this DVD makes me want to hop the next flight to Spain to see the sights, meet the people, and go to a Mago de Oz concert. If any of the following bands appeal to you, you'll be floored by Mago de Oz: Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Flogging Molly, Van Halen,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great band, not so great DVD
Despite the fact that I can't understand a word they're singing, I've really gotten into Spanish folk metal band Mago de Oz in recent months. I love the albums that I've heard, and I thought their Madrid las Ventas DVD was fantastic. Unfortunately, their DVD release Finisterra wasn't anywhere near as good.

If any of the following bands appeal to you, you'll be floored by Mago de Oz: Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Flogging Molly, Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Hammerfall, etc. The included biographical DVD also gives you a little look behind the scenes. All in all, a superb DVD, and worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is real good stuff, August 2, 2005
This review is from: Mago de Oz: A Costa da Rock (DVD)
Is Renato in his senses?? I've known Mago for quite a time, and they're one of the few bands that has true creativity and skill to play, compose,. and act in stage, this DVD is really good, audio and video are good. C'mon, it's a 2 hour magnificient concert, performed by some quality musicians.
I agree, maybe Txus (drums) isn't the best drummer out there, but he does his work, and his compositions are magnificient, some of the best spanish lyrics I've ever heard.
This DVD has great performances from the 8 band members, I really like Mohamed (Violin) and Jose's vocals are a force to be reckoned with. Carlitos in guitars has some really powerful solos, like in "El Santo Grial" or "El Fin del Camino"
This concert will please you from beginning to end, if you like Innovative and Well Played music, performed by some really virtuoso musicans, Mago de Oz and this DVD are YOUR thing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great band, not so great DVD, February 27, 2009
This review is from: Mago de Oz: Finisterra (DVD)
Despite the fact that I can't understand a word they're singing, I've really gotten into Spanish folk metal band Mago de Oz in recent months. I love the albums that I've heard, and I thought their Madrid las Ventas DVD was fantastic. Unfortunately, their DVD release Finisterra wasn't anywhere near as good.

Main Program - I have to assume the band's goal was not to recreate or capture the epic scope of the Finisterra album. If so, they wouldn't have used such low-grade production values. I understand some of the old "filmstrip" style defects were intentional, but it's just as obvious that the poor, dubbed-VHS quality recordings weren't. It's a shame, because the music is wonderful and the live performances would otherwise have been quite good. The constant shift between live performance and band interviews was a bit annoying. I wish they had separated the documentary footage and added it as a bonus feature so it wouldn't distract from the music.

Bonus Features - Sadly, there are none. This is a shame, because close captioning would have been a nice touch for those of us who don't speak Spanish, especially given just how much off-stage footage Finisterra has.

The Verdict: Unless you're a huge Mago de Oz fan, you may want to skip this one. The only real reason to check this DVD out is the Doro guest appearance on "Man on the Silver Mountain", and that's too brief to justify the DVD's price tag. If you're looking for a great Mago de Oz live DVD, I recommend picking up Madrid las Ventas instead.

NOTE: Amazon currently has the reviews for Finsterra and Costa da Rock linked. If they weren't linked, the overall rating for Costa da Rock would be much higher (and Finisterra would be much lower).

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete deception, June 4, 2004

This review is from: Mago de Oz: Finisterra (DVD)
The worst DVD I ever bought. The audio is sufferable and the image is worst than VHS. This DVD is an insult, an affront to the fans and consumers. If you compare with the band CD is a complete deception. Don't buy, even if you are a fan of the Mago de Oz like me. I apologize for my English; my natural language is Portuguese from Brasil.
