4.0 out of 5 stars Broke my brand new AR15 trigger gaurd mount, but..., October 20, 2011

This review is from: Magpul Industries Enhanced Trig Grd Alum (Misc.)
Ordered this a few days ago. Bought my first AR 15 a couple weeks back and was looking to pretty it up a bit. I followed the directions to a 'T'. I'm a professional woodworker so I'm not a novice when it comes to working with tools and machinery. I used a back block under the trigger. I even took off the handle to allow more of the block to support it while I hammered the pin in. It was so tight I even put a couple drops of gun oil to make it a tad easier. I made sure that it was going in the holes right. Everyone is saying that it isn't easy to hammer home so when I had to put some serious power into it I figured this was just the way it was. Then my trigger guard mounting ear broke off!!
I'm freaking P.O'd!!! It's only been fired once!

UPDATE

I'll be the first to admit my mistakes....
It turns out I tried installing the trigger guard backwards. I was trying to force the pin into the threaded hole. The threaded hole is slightly smaller that the other, correct, hole.
Make sure you have the trigger guard in their correctly! The threaded hole should be closest to the barrel.
Hopefully this helps someone out!

Not quite "drop in" as the rear pin requires a fair bit of tapping with the right sized drift pin (size given in the directions) but that means the pin won't drop out with use. The front screw appears to have been treated with some thread compound. It didn't interfere with screwing it in and, if I'm right in what it is, again a good thing. I wanted the metal one and got it.

It arrived in a couple of days of placing the order.

If you need it, or want one for the looks, you will get it. This vendor is a good one to get it from (speed of delivery).

Looks and works great! Way better than the stock trigger guard! Anodized coating was very clean and consistent. No machining marks either.

They go on all my AR's. A nice 2nd choice for half the $$$ is also by Mapul, the Magpul "MOE".
Looks good, feels good, cost is quite reasonable. A no-brainer AFAIC.

It is a nice little upgrade and works as advertised. It is metal which is nice and although it cost slightly more it is worth the price tag.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice upgrade but the install is not the easiest thing to do, September 10, 2011

This is a trigger guard, it's from Magpul. What more do I need to say? I replaced the stock straight trigger guard on my AR with this one for cosmetic reasons (this looks cool) as well as allowing me to shoot better wearing gloves. I had a somewhat hard time installing the new trigger guard. I had to go out and get a Pin Punch Kit with a 1/8" pin punch to tap out the old roll pin from my old trigger guard and to install this. You could get away with a nail set to do this, but I wouldn't because you will most likely damage the metal/pain on your rifle. The process of getting the old pin out and a new one in took me more time that I thought it would. My advice if you buy this is to make sure you either have a pin punch set or go and buy one before this product arrives - your going to need it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like the look, July 31, 2011

I've mounted several of these on different AR and Sig556 rifles. You can argue if they are a practical addition. It does create space for people who may want to shoot with heavy gloves, but so does the standard folding trigger guard. I've never had an issue where I needed to use either. But I do like the look it gives the rifle and don't feel I need a 'need' for them. They are top notch as far as quality goes and fit is usually a none issue. There are a lot of producers of AR lowers now though so you will occasionaly run into undersized or oversized holes in the lower itself. Usually its a quick fix with a drill bit and isn't the trigger guards fault. Since this was release Magpul has put out one in their MOE line made of polymer which is the same profile for less than half the price. So I am somewhat surprised they continue to carry the aluminum one.
