5.0 out of 5 stars This is actually the real game of Mah Jong, November 5, 2005

Mah jong matching games, as fun as they might be, are NOT the game of Mah Jong. The game enjoyed by the Japanese (Richi rules) and the classic Classic Chinese games are sort of like Rummy mixed with opera, martial arts and spirituality i.e. it's pretty easy to get the drift of but may take a lifetime to actually master. The scoring intricacies alone are enough to make your head spin. (You won't have to worry about scoring- the game does that. However, you'll play this for a while and then want a set of real Chinese tiles to play with your pals and the tile sets are hella expensive and the scoring is mindnumbing....just sayin'. Just look up Mah Jong Scoring on Google and then see if you can stay awake long enough to read them all.)

This game has most of the fun without the excitement and high drama of playing with real people. Aspyr makes a darn good game and I'm sorry they're not around anymore. I love this game- it's the basic mah jong game with 3 computer adversaries. You don't get to yell or ooh and ahh when they get a Kong of Red Dragon or an all "simples" hand (well, you can, but you'll be oohing and ahhing the computer) but you do get the basic game and also, if you want more complications, there are flower tiles if you want to add them. There are the helpful English tiles with the numbers printed on them and there are the Chinese tiles which are more authentic. You can also have the game called in Chinese (-I think it's Cantonese- can't remember right off the bat.) It's a great way to learn Chinese if all you want to say are numbers and east, west, north and south- heh. This game includes both classic and Richi rules so you can play either game. The Richi rules game will come in handy if you are playing one of those Mah Jong machines in Japan. I like the classic rules better (ie, I win that one more often). But if you've ever seen a movie where the characters play mah jong you will remember that the participants are every bit as raucous and hotly competitive as any poker playing night.

This is the best computer mah jong game I've ever played. It's pretty comprehensive and well done. All in all, this game is addictive and fun and, by the by, LONG. A full game will run you a couple of hours. No kidding. Mah Jong is not for the weak or impatient. But it is a lot of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only a Demo??, October 8, 2006

I have an old demo of this game & I agree this is the REAL MAH JONG!!!

If I could purchase the MAC version of it, I would.

All the other so-called Mah Jong Games are just tile forms of solitaire.

While solitaire is OK, you're actually playing against others in this game.

Does anyone know of a current program that does the same?

5.0 out of 5 stars Mah Jong Parlour, December 6, 2009

I still have OS 10.4 on a computer so I can pay this game. It's the best there is.

To bad Aspyr doesn't think so. All they would really need to do is recompile it with Apple's help unless, of course, they don't like Apples.
