4.0 out of 5 stars Blues Legend rockin' with great band!
Taj Mahal gives a great performance in this catchy, 'make you want to dance' type of show in the Carribean. Taj having assembled the Phantom Blues Band to tour with him for several years dating from the later 90's and into the 2000's they are a killer band, and he is always great. This DVD has a great set list consisting of both Taj classics like "Queen Bee", "Mailbox...

3.0 out of 5 stars Taj Does Island
This is all fine musicianship and there's nothing at all you can say bad about it. That said, on an entirely personal level, much of its not really my thing. Taj, as he should, plays to the audience; People of St Lucia and people traveling there. So, for me, it was a little too laid back, a little Reggae, and more blues, but laid back like I'd expect in the West...

The Filming is Crystal Clear but has a few sub-par camera angles, but the sound is impecable. Formatted in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround and DTS it is sure to impress in your home theater. A good buy and a great artist whose music is sure to get your hips shakin!

What was with the audience? They barely got into it in the first set... I'm a white boy but gotta say that I was ashamed to see the white boys sitting there not moving their hands. Bought tickets on the "package deal" on their vacation??? Pitiful! DON'T WATCH THE AUDIENCE. Listen to the excellent blues and close your eyes when they pan to the audience. This is good stuff.

Taj, as he should, plays to the audience; People of St Lucia and people traveling there. So, for me, it was a little too laid back, a little Reggae, and more blues, but laid back like I'd expect in the West Indies.

Taj did a show stealer at James Taylor Musicares Person of the Year party and this is what I was hoping for, just to put it in proper perspective. He pulled out all the stops, surprisingly a little older, but somehow more, much more energetic. On the other hand, its one thing to give it all ya got for a one song performance vs pacing yourself for a whole show. Things do pick up in St Lucia, especially towards the end.

So, if you're a Taj fan and want some music to sit back and relax with your Honey...this is a must have. If otherwise, its still a very good performance.
