Product Description

Presenting the U-30LB Student Painted Ukulele by Mahalo

Now Mahalo Ukuleles are available in a rainbow of colors—each comes with it's own color-matched bag for easy and safe transportation to the Beach or the weekly lesson. With 8 colors to choose from there’s something for everyone!

Traditional Look
Distinctive Design
Classic Design

Making its first major appearance in the USA at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Fair in San Francisco, the ukulele continues to delight and attract fans of every age, gender and skill level. Little has changed in the design of these diminutive tonal powerhouses; which is a testament to the design perfection achieved right from the start. The most popular and often the most affordable shape continues to be the soprano size. It’s easy to carry, has that traditional sound and can be remarkably affordable, too.

Wood Selection

The Mahalo Painted Uke Series was designed to be affordable without sacrificing tonal quality or playability. To accomplish this, maple was chosen for the construction of these fine instruments and results in a crisp, bright edge to the characteristic warm, airy island sound that is most familiar to all.

Construction

Normally, affordable ukuleles are often perceived to be more “toy-like,” than taken seriously as a genuine musical instrument. With Mahalo Painted Ukes, you can be sure that each instrument is constructed with the same attention to detail the one might expect in more costly instruments. From all angles, the construction is clean, and the fit and finish will exceed expectation.

Features and Fittings

The Painted Series is available in a complete rainbow of colors to assure mass appeal…each with an accompanying color-matched gig bag. The painted fingerboards have accurately spaced, smooth and polished frets, while the guitar-style, geared tuners are more accurate than planetary-style tuners; effectively taking the guesswork out of tuning.

This was the first uke I bought because I'd never played one before, but I really wanted to learn, so I opted for a cheapo one. I've owned it for a couple of months and I absolutely love it. I've named it my "blukulele".

Negative:
Okay, this is a cheap uke, and it certainly looks like it. The frets are painted wood, not metal, the paint job is kinda sloppy. The strings are kinda too high off the fingerboard for my liking, but this is a minor problem. The gig-bag is basically useless. It's so thin with literally NO padding, so I really don't understand why they even give you one, unless it's just because of the novelty of it matching the paint job. I keep mine in the box it came in so it doesn't get damaged. It's just as easy to carry the uke around with you than to keep it in the gig bag. The only use I could see for it would be to keep water off, and it doesn't even seem fit to do that job well.

Positive:
For its cheapness, this uke still sounds great, and it seems solid enough (good for kids who might be careless with it). Also, I was surprised by how well the strings hold tuning: after a few days, I rarely needed to tune it. This is something you can't see in the picture, but on the back of the head stock, the tuners are shaped like dolphins, I think that is absolutely adorable and fantastic!! This thing was so easy to play. All i had to do was print off chord charts and I'm a pro now! It's soo much fun too! This is GREAT for kids who want to try an instrument, or people who want to learn ukulele on a very cheap starter uke. The paint job just looks really cool, I mean who wouldn't love a powder blue uke! (The blue color is just slightly lighter than it looks in this picture. I will try to post a customer imaged).

Overall, I love this thing, it's so great. I'm contemplating getting another color just because I love all the options they have, maybe purple or orange.

Get this uke, you will be glad you did!!

This isn't exactly a video review. I just used the video to show what this uke could do within about 4 hours of it being in my hands. I have never used a ukulele before and I have to say this is a good starter uke. I recorded this a few hours after I got it. So, let me break this down for you:
Pros: Nice color, nice sound, good for beginners, inexpensive.
Cons: Crappy strings, paint job isn't that good, the tuners are loose so it needs tuned often.
So, in conclusion, if you're a beginner, this baby is the thing for you. Just be sure to get some new strings. The ones that come with this are plastic, the sound is alright, they're just easily breakable and come out of tune alot.

For being only $21, this uke is great. It didn't hold tune well at all the first day but after continuing to tune it began to hold and now it doesn't need to be tuned often (every few days). It is a bit frustrating to tune it so often but juststick with it and the uke sounds great. The sound quality is good for being so inexpensive. Overall, this is a great ukulele for people just learning!

I thought to get an ukulele to play as a very beginner. It's as cute as I thought. The only bad thing is the strings are plastic ones and the black painting comes off after my hand got sweaty. But once they all come off, I guess there is no more problems. Over all, I like a lot for this price and quality.

We all are musicians in our family and one of the kids saved up for this. As music instructors, we thought this instrument would be fine for a 9yo to start on. Upon arrival we were impressed that the paint job was much better than we expected. The color is slightly lighter - a lovely powder blue.

The frets are real, the tuning keys are not shaped like an animal - just a normal shape and the sound is very nice. Another of our kids plays a $120 Lahaina ukulele from Kauai that is a very nice, quality instrument. It's not quite as bright and rich as the spendy uke, but the tone of the Mahalo is pleasant and mellow. Bravo Mahalo for creating an affordable, quality product. Our 9yo says she's 'in love'. XO

I bought this ukulele thinking it would be a nice addition to my Hilo uke. Another uke to have. But I was wrong. This can't even compare to my $30 Hilo.

1) When I opened the box it smelled strongly of paint
2) the paint was still wet! i kid you not, i insinctively pulled the uke out from around the neck and the black paint from the fretboard smudged onto the neck where it is light blue!
3) there are random paint bubbles in different areas of the ukulele's body. There are dirt smudges from probably their warehouse? just terrible.
4) the chords arent tuning and yes I know they take time to break in, but honestly that's just another bad thing... I mean its bad enough I had such a terrible experience opening my package, but now I cant even enjoy its sound? i gotta put it down to dry and hopefully it will tune one day?

NO, save your money. for $10-20 more you can get a good ukulele like Hilo, Kala, or Lanikai, that will hold good, and last you a long time. This ukulele is a joke, I'm sorry. Perhaps you guys should care more about your customer instead of painting the d*** uke right before you shipped it to me so it can get all smudged and smell nasty.

oh and the "gig bag" is a joke as well. Nothing but a little plastic wrapping. Will not be using this at all. Worthless.

**by the way this review was written literally 5 minutes after I opened the box and saw the uke, it was that bad**

don't waste your money. I read the reviews prior to purchasing and thought ehhh well maybe ill get lucky and have a good experience. Don't think that way cause youre seriously gonna waste your money.
