This chanting booklet contains the text of Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram as well as a verse-by-verse spiritual commentary based on Amma's discourses. Also included are the words to the Maha Sakti Pitha Stotram and the Dwadasa Jyotirlinga Stotram.
Amma has recommended this stotram for daily chanting, as it is extremely powerful for destroying all negativity. Certain verses even have the power to reduce war-like tendencies in aggressive countries. As the 20 verses of this stotram contains the same energy of the 700 verses of Chandi Saptasati, Amma recommends this stotram to those who do not have time to chant the extremely powerful Chandi Saptasati. A learning tape/CD is also available, entitled "Learn Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram."

"Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram is like a beautiful garland of sound flowers strung together by the devotee and offered to Jagan Mata, the Divine Mother who guides all souls on the path of truth and light and protects the entire universe. this stotram was written by Sri Sankaracharya, who, Amma has explained, was an incarnation of Lord Siva himself. Sri Sankaracharya wrote this beautiful song by condensing a famous Devi scripture, the Devi Mahatmyam, also known as the Chandi Saptasati. It is not just the story which has been condensed; all the powerful energies of the Sanskrit sounds in the Chandi have also been concentrated in this stotram."

This little booklet is a real gem. It gives a page-by-page illustration of Mahishasura Mardini Stotram by Adi Sankara. It was written by the latter because he knew that it would be difficult for most people to recite the Chandi Path on a daily basis. Therefore he included all the main tenets of the Chandi Path in twenty beautifully written verses. There are of course many translations of this famous stotram but none could equal that of Karunamayi.
She has not only translated the verses into English but makes them sound beautiful with all the internal rhythms and cadences a great poem should possess. In addition she writes a full page about the essence of each of the twenty verses. As if that wasn't enough she also gives us a translation of the 18 Shakti Pithas and the 12 Shiva Jyotirlingams. I think it is truly a great gift to mankind.
