This is possibly the best performance of Mahler's 4th Symphony. The performance is very organized and logical, with quick tempos that have been carefully measured to bear rational relationships to one another. The nuances in the instrumental playing are some of the most sensitive on recording and the overall balance of the sound is very clean and even. Dohnanyi brings pure intelligence and deep emotional understanding to the performance. If this is "nature" music, the overall tone is that of early springtime. Highly recommended, if they could only restock it.
