Book Description

October 3, 2007
The classic mahogany runabout is a universally popular modeling subject, but many newcomers to the modeling hobby are apprehensive about completing a build. Will they be able to fit the planks perfectly? And how about the glass-smooth clear finish, which tolerates no mistakes in woodwork or polishing? It's really not so hard, just follow the steps outlined here! Model boat buff Patrick Matthews covers the entire process, from choosing a project from one of the many available kits, through building and finishing a mahogany marvel-- even the basics of Radio Control are covered. Additional suggestions are included for simple but effective customizations, as well as a gallery of models from some real masters of the craft-- temptation and encouragement for the modeler to stretch further yet. Patrick Matthews shares his enthusiasm for model boats through contributions to Ships in Scale magazine, where he covers Radio Control scale model boats. In his spare time, Patrick is an automotive engineer in Detroit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, long overdue!, October 30, 2007

If you have been ambivalent about building one of those gorgeous Dumas mahogany models but were afraid to jump in this book will allay your fears. It is filled with lots of step by step details, photographs, and line drawings. It also has photos of some of the most incredibly detailed mahogany boat models by the masters of the craft.

This book will be at my side when I build my mahogany Chris~Craft!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mahogany Boat Builder's Bible, November 28, 2007

No one should start to build their first scale boat model without this book on their workbench. Pat, a master builder, gives step-by-step guidance so that even the beginning modeler will complete a miniature masterpiece that will be the talk of the pond.

I wish this book was available when I built my first boat; many of the issues that slowed it's construction are addressed. The number and quality of the photos illustrating the narrative are first-rate.

A must-have book.

As a model R/C Boat hobbyist, I found this book very rewarding. Lots of great ideas, photos, and valuable tips for building your very own Chris Craft mahogany boat with perfect results.

Great job Pat! Thank you.
