Different from the Anime, October 31, 2005
This review is from: Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden, Volume 7 (Paperback)
The Keeper's Professor launches the final phase of his plan to capture Mahoro-san. The young male cyborg 227 comes to get things started, which involves telling Suguru the truth behind his father's death. The plan doesn't go well as Suguru doesn't fall into 227's trap and Mahoro gets some much-needed support from powerful allies. However, her runtime is almost gone and she doesn't want to leave Suguru's side. What can she do?
With the 7th volume of "Mahoromatic", we see where the anime stopped using material from the anime to wrap up the 2nd series. For starters, we have the introduction of the young cyborg girl 773 (aka: Nanami-chan). Her role is fairly small, but it was very important. Further, the fact that Shijiko-sensei and the other three girls from Suguru's class learn of the truth of aliens and the like was a real surprise to me. This should make for some interesting future tales, should Nakayama-sensei decide to explore this further.
As expected, there are plenty of ecchi images for Ditama-san to draw as Nakayama-sensei has the group take an onsen trip. It appears to me that Ditama-san is getting a little bolder in his nude drawings, but not enough to trigger the Japanese censors. Personally, I don't like the ecchi materials and this is (for me) the weakness of the series.
Bottom line: The story is getting interesting now that it is going where the anime did not. If you've enjoyed the previous six volumes, you'll certainly enjoy this volume too.
