I've read this manga series by checking it out of the public library, and got hooked. Unlike other cute characters, Misaki is a tough girl that doesn't allow anything to bring her down, or get in her way. Her relationship with Takumi is so adorable since she's so dense, and he's just the match for her. In many ways, the story is similar to the Special A series, in terms of the relationship between Misaki x Takumi; but, the story plot itself makes many twists and turns that keep the reader begging for more.
I wanted to start buying the series, but then I found out that this is the last volume published in America because the publishing company Tokyo Pop closed down back in spring of 2011. Because of that, this series (and others still underway by that comapany) were discontinued. I was extremely upset because most readers are still waiting for the next volume to come out. Unfortunately, this is the last volume available in the U.S.; unless another manga publishing company picks it up; however, none have.
The series is by no means over, since it is currently in it's 14th volume in Japan and still ongoing. We can only hope that an American publishing company will pick this series up and let all the readers continue enjoying this hilarious and yet, intensely emotional story.
BTW, the anime that covers the first 8 volumes is also very good =)Maid Sama! Collection 1 Maid Sama! Collection 2

The book kept me interested, but it was disappointing to see that only half of the book is of the actual storyline. The other half probably served as "fillers" to make the book thicker. The other half consists of bonus material: 2 side stories. The first side story was boring, in my opinion, because there was no romance in it - it was about the idiot trio. However, the 2nd story was very good, but it was super short: 7 pages, front and back, while the 1st side story was way longer, at 20 pages, front and back. Just keep that into consideration when buying this book. the 2nd story was about usui and misaki and it was romantic.
Don't get me wrong, i liked the book, its just that i wanted more of the actual story than the bonus filler stuff.

This series had to grow on me a little at first, but then I got caught up and was really liking it when Tokyopop closed. I haven't really talked about my feelings on Tokyopop, and I don't know if I will in a different post, because they're not very good feelings, and I don't want to blather on about them. Especially since I'm an amateur and probably missed some things, but I was not happy with them before they closed, and now I'm very unhappy with them. And since I like finishing things, or at least books, once I start them, and now I have several series left hanging that I was attached to... Whatever, I am going to start talking about the manga now.
Maid Sama! is about Misaki, the president at a school that used to be all boys, and so there are more boys than girls and she's very forceful with rules. She doesn't even like boys very much (not that she goes to the other way, because she doesn't. She just has a bias to women, and is still upset about her dad leaving her and her mom.), and tends to protect all the girls. But she also works at a maid cafe, which she tries to keep hidden from everyone.
Anyway, in the previous volume, Usui confessed to Misaki, and the first chapter focuses on how she's reacting to him now. She's usually very embarrassed and blushes whenever he's around, and whenever anything is intended toward them being anything more than friends, and now she's just very embarrassed and trying not to show it.
Usui is a supposed bad boy, but he's very stoic, in trying not to show anything. He doesn't show a lot of emotion, but he loves Misaki, and he's very open about this. He's possessive, and he'll fight anyone for her.
The next chapter focuses on Hinata, an old childhood friend of Misaki's.

I really enjoyed this read. Maid Sama is funny and cute, and sometimes a little weird, but if you find weird funny then it works out well.
