By
This review is from: Maida's Little House (Hardcover)
like the rest I inherited these wonderful books from older sisters and cousins-have 8 would love the rest-but they are so had to get hold of. they are especially interesting to me as I come from a town next to Charlestown and love to read the description of how Boston and the Cape were back then Such positive images of bright and thoughtful girls and boys-wouldn't it be wonderful to get them republished like they are now doing with the old Judy Bolton Series

This is a wonderful series that I too discovered as a child. I have 8-9 of the Maida books and thought I was only missing Zoo until I read the other reviews. Would be very interested in hearing from others as to where we might find some of these that are missing from our series. These books stand the test of time through all generations, providing good, clean fun, high morals and boys and girls getting along and solving their differences without violence.

This review is from: Maida's Little House (Hardcover)
I read these books 50 years ago and have carried the wonderful memory of them through the years. This is a set definitely worth reprinting. In the last year, I have been able to find several of them in online auctions, but what a joy it would be to have a complete set. Children today, need books of this type very much.

I was given the first 13 books of this series when I was 8. My brother and I both loved them and reread them constantly. I am trying to recollect them. I have 2 extra copies of Maida's Little School and one extra of Maida's Little House. I am looking for Houseparty, Theatre, Treehouse, Farm, Hospital and treasurre hunt. I recently got Maida's Little Shop on E-bay

I was introduced to Maida in the early 70's. The books belonged to my Uncle's wife. I would also like to collect this set. The Maida stories were my favorites, even beyond the "Bobbsy Twins" and "Boxcar Children". I would love to see them reprinted. Those of you collecting already, please write if you get a duplicate.stefcia67@aol.com

Love the story but this reprint is garbage,
This review is from: Maida's Little House (Paperback)
My wife had these books as a child, we love them all and were trying to buy some for our Niece. This reprint however is garbage, it has an incredible number of typos, misprints, format problems. I would not be surprised if the printer used a scanner to reproduce the book but used no spell check. The chapters should be in Roman numerals but the come out with T's instead of I's. Chapter start end are jammed together on the same page. If you are going to reprint try to do a better job.

The entire "Maida" series had special meaning for me as a young girl, as Maida is also my name. It was a difficult name for a young girl to have... who wanted an unusual name as a child? "Maida" was a strong and wonderful person to relate to; I cherished each book as it came out. Unfortunately, all my childhood books are gone, but I would love to reacquire them. Please let me know if anyone knows where to get them. THANK YOU.

I met Maida and her friends as an adult, but know I would have loved her as a child. I am also looking for more of the books. I have Little Shop, Little House, Little Island, and Treasure Hunt, and love them all. Both the boys and girls are REAL people, with good and bad moods, actions, etc.

And I thought I was the only one...,

I also discovered these books as a young child in the fifties, in the bookshelves of my older cousins. They graciously allowed me to take their copies ( they had three: Village, School and Farm) and I was able to buy House and Houseparty. I have gradually, over the years, found most of the others but am still missing four (Zoo, Lighthouse, Hospital and Treasure Hunt.) They are the perfect combination of fantasy and reality, a life where the children were protected, not controlled, and girls did things too, and even fought for the right to do them. Maida's Little School, along with Dorothy Canfield's "Understood Betsy" profoundly influenced my philosophy of education. Would some reprint company want to reprint all of them? I was unaware of the Buccaneer books edition. Maida lovers of the world unite
