Good Intent...I suppose,
By Ruth S Bryant (North Haven, CT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maiden Magick (Paperback)
I bought this book thinking it would be a lovely, thorough introduction to the Celtic Goddess path (of which I am highly interested) but I was wrong. The only good thing about this book is that the author stresses the idea that the Goddess is in every teenage girl and to get rid of guilt and stress. The rest of the book is utter rubbish. Not only does she give historical information that has no back up (such as the idea that the Celts only worshipped a Goddess), she does not give what to do in a ritual but says that it is important, acts as though the Celtic Goddess path is the best path for anyone to follow, and does not give thorough information on what magic(k), the Sabbats, and many other things are. As a teenage Wiccan ,I am always looking for books for teenagers interested in Wicca and witchcraft, and I have to say that this was a waste of time. I didn't even finish the book and am sending it back to amazon. If you want to read a good book for teens on witchcraft, read Where to Park Your Broomstick: A Teenager's Guide to Witchcraft instead.

Goddess Worthy!,

This review is from: Maiden Magick (Paperback)
I was drawn to this book and picked it up while I was out of town visiting friends. I wasn't sure what I was looking for, but what I found was a spiritually uplifting little book. I also had a bad childhood, so I would say I bought it as sort a comfort item for my inner child. It definitly worked! This book doesn't have a lot of Witchy stuff. It just helps uplift a young (or not so young) woman's spirit and remind her the Goddess is always there for her.
Now that I have read it I actually have several teens in my space that are looking for some guidance. I feel very good about exposing them to this book. I don't believe in recruiting and I don't feel that's what this book does. It is simply a spiritual support for an unsure teen that will help them feel more like choosing a spiritual path on their own. I will probably give a copy to my sister for her inner child also;-)

Though I am only half way through the book, Maiden Magick has been a very positive experience for me. I highly recommend Maiden Magick to adolescents interested in learning the way of the Goddess. With her love and knowledge, C.C Brondwin does an extraordinary job of making the reader feel comfortable, highly respected and loved while teaching you to be true to yourself and to bring Goddess love into the hearts of others. I give this book a well deserved 5 stars :)

I bought this book based on some glowing reviews I saw online, but was disgusted by how useless it actually was. Maiden Magick says it is for teenagers looking for a better understanding of the Goddess, but the level it is written at is more for 8-10 year olds (tops). There is no good information and only 1 or 2 pages in the entire book worth reading. The only tradition disscussed is Celtic with no real mention of other options and there are no good explanations of what the religion is, just what you should be doing.

i first read this book when i was in junior high and i thought it was good. when i saw it on here for a couple of dollars i thought 'why not?' when i received the book and flipped through it i realized the only thing i liked was the artwork. there isn't very much useful content. i guess it was okay when i was a teenager, but going through it now...it's just so one sided, the author even calls the sun god boring! i'm glad i only spent a couple of dollars on this because it's not worth much more than that.

A good overview,

I first got this book form the library last year and it was one of thous books I carried around EVERYWHERE.
Though, as others have said, the book doesn't go into much depth on any particular subject--although it dose have the resorses for such in the back of the book--it dose give a good overview on the concept as a hole. And although other books I've read on the subject have more in-depth information they also seem to have a feeling that you must commit to everything you read in them, this book gives you a better chance to test the waters before you make any big desisons on the matter (just like with dating!) Over all I enjoyed this book vary much and found it vary helpful.
