3.0 out of 5 stars Still scratching my head....
I bought this book based off of the genre. Great storyline and EXCELLENT portrayal of a male hero character for this time period. Distant, damaged, cold, and lonely hero with a persistent, humble maiden to make it all better. What I found totally silly was the ending - there were a couple of times I just flipped through towards the end because I was like "Seriously?? Are...

5.0 out of 5 stars Maiden and the Monster, March 14, 2008
This review is from: Maiden and the Monster (Paperback)
Vladamir, Duke of Lakeshire Castle, rules with an iron fist. He resents being Lord of this castle as he is a political prisoner and a pawn in the Kings wars. When a badly beaten and unconscious woman is found at the castle gates, he very begrudgingly takes her in to have her cared for. Eden wakes in terrible pain, not knowing where she is. She is disoriented
and scared. When she realizes she is in the castle of the man known as "The Monster," Eden is terrified of what he might do to her. When Vladamir discovers that Eden is the daughter of his enemy, he jumps at the chance to make her his prisoner.

Vladamir and Eden come to an agreement, Eden will not try to escape as long as Vladamir does not hurt her father's people. Vladamir distrusts women and Eden is no exception, but as time goes by, the lines drawn by capture and captive are blurred and Vladamir finds his attraction to Eden growing in it's intensity. Eden, too, finds herself hopelessly drawn
to Vladamir's touch. Trouble is brewing from Eden's father her and ex-fiancee though, and Vladamir and Eden find themselves fighting for their love and Vladamir's life.

I was so entranced by Maiden and the Monster I couldn't put it down. It's
intense, and full of emotion. Along with being handsome and mysterious, Vladamir is delectable and dominant. Eden's innocence and desire for Vladamir are sweetly sexy. Their passion is consuming. Interesting characters and an entertaining plot combine to make this a thoroughly enjoyable story. The conclusion of Maiden and the Monster is very powerful
and moving, and kept me on the edge of my seat. It's ending is also very tender and loving. Maiden and the Monster is a keeper!

Wow! What a fabulous read. This story has it all, lust, betrayal, politics, alliances and ultimately love. I enjoyed the historical setting; Briton, now under the rule King Alfred and with an uneasy alliance with the Danes, and the peoples affected by this.

This story will make you laugh, cry, grimace, tense, Hot and the ending will keep you on the edge of your seat. What a shock!

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!!, July 19, 2007

I won't go into what the story is about as I wish to make this short and sweet. Let me just say that the only reason I didn't give this five stars is that, really, a FIVE star book is the most ultimate of romance books. As for this one, if ya love ya hero's strong and ya heroine's who won't let any man push her around: if ya love steamy sex but not on EVERY SECOND page, and if ya love all that an' get a great story to go with it all...then this book is for you. I actually had my doubts about it when I read the blurb on the book, but this little baby thankfully gave me a glorious read!! EXCELLENT!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Passionate and intense hero make this a terrific novel, June 10, 2008

This review is from: Maiden and the Monster (Paperback)
I liked just about everything in this novel, the leads, the characterization, the plot and the romance all work so well.

Hero Vladamir is regarded as a monster by his Saxon serfs and servants. He is far from being so. Yes he has a gruff temper but he has lost his wife and has created a tough encasement around his heart. So no one is surprised that he is less than pleased about finding an injured woman covered in blood in front of his castle.

Eden is the maiden of this story. She has been badly beaten by her fiancé and left for dead. She wakes in Vladamir's castle entirely disoriented but grateful to be there and out of the clutches of her sadistic fiancé and wrathful father.

Vladamir discovers she is the daughter of his enemy and tells her she is his prisoner. She accepts this mainly because he is the lesser of two evils. She is terrified to be sent home. Problem is that Eden must prove that she is no spy and that she really does care for Vladamir. When they marry, she is thrilled but he is still wary of her and his feelings.

The chemistry between these two is passionate. Michelle Pillow does an excellent job of creating longing in them for each other. Vladamir's transformation from gruff embittered nobleman to loving husband is wonderful. His icy demeanor is completely gone by the end of the novel. Really, this novel focuses much more on his feelings than Eden's and that's what makes this book so original and a definite keeper.

4.0 out of 5 stars Passionate and graphic, but not excessively erotic like some, March 3, 2011

Somewhat over the top (and I loved it for that). Absolutely fabulous tension and buildup prior to the hero and heroine getting together. Great pacing, especially for a longer story. Loved both the hero and heroine, the developing romance, and the hero's transformation. I did have a problem with one of the character's transformation and one of the dramatic plot devices. They both could have been made believable, but as is just weren't--and I'm pretty easy to convince, particularly when I loved the rest so much.

Distant, damaged, cold, and lonely hero with a persistent, humble maiden to make it all better. What I found totally silly was the ending - there were a couple of times I just flipped through towards the end because I was like "Seriously?? Are you kidding me??" Some of the language is graphic in the sex scenes (but there is a disclaimer to that). I really liked Eden - great heroine. The story was unique and intriguing, up until the end. Overall, I don't regret purchasing it and would read it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE..Flash back to 80's bodice ripper, December 28, 2009
This review is from: Maiden and the Monster (Paperback)
This book earned its one star. The sex scenes were a little too graphic for my taste (I could quote some language but I am assuming amazon would censor my review). I could have dealt with the sex scene, but the plot was ridiculous (I spent a lot of time going "really"). Also, the hero is horrible to the heroine. He is constantly pushing, shoving,or pulling her. He isn't at all considerate and their scenes together don't display any tenderness. How she fell in love with him is astounding. Also his feelings are slapped on at the end but don't develop. IF you are looking for the old bodice ripper kind of story then this is your book...if you would like a warm romantic story then look elsewhere.
